Just bought There Will Be Blood from Blockbuster and was wondering how good it is. Obviously excellent but is it better then NCFOM? I loved NCFOM just wanna know what to expect when watching TWBB.

Just my opinion, but I don't think it's anywhere near as good as NCFOM. There are some plot twists that might mystify you a little (they haven't struck a lot of people in a "good" way).

After reading a lot of reviews on here about TWBB, I agreed with the consensus, if there was one. The general take seemed to be that the acting was very good throughout (especially DDL) and that the movie was a good but not great experience.

I find myself thinking about DDL's character from time to time, but not really about the plot of the movie as a whole. It's a little hard to describe, but I guess I'd say that I thought his character was bigger than the movie and transcended a rather (to me) bland plot.

To me, both are movies that approached greatness but sort of lost it at the end. Now that time has passed, I've seen NCFOM on the shelf at Vulcan and been very tempted to rent it for another viewing. As good as DDL was in TWBB, I'm not similarly tempted.

Short answer: No Country for Old Men

TWBB is a very Paul Anderson movie. Like Punch Drunk Love & Magnolia the movie is really just about the characters and the acting. The plot is really sort of meandering. It definitely has a story arc, but it doesn't feel like a traditional 3-act movie. It's more like a character study through a set of chronological events. PT Anderson is sort of the anti-Shyamalan.
