The Walking Dead

I'm not a big fan of Night of the Living Dead zombie movies, so I was a little indifferent about The Walking Dead. I put the series in my Netflix instant queue after reading a lot of rave reviews, but held off watching it for quite some time.

I finally started watching one night and finished season 1 in about three days. Season 2 had already wrapped up on AMC and isn't available on Netflix yet, so I was left hanging waiting for it to be replayed. Lo and behold I saw recently that AMC is replaying seasons 1 & 2 in their entirety July 7th and 8th as a build up to the start of season 3.

This show rocks In my humble opinion, particularly for a cable channel series. The special effects rival much of what I have seen on the big screen and I found the story and characters very compelling. It's a story that has been played out many times, but this one is done in such a way that makes it refreshingly different.

I don't watch many series on TV, but three that I have really liked are all on AMC - The Walking Dead, The Killing and Mad Men. All of which are equal, or superior to just about anything on the major networks these days.

I'm curious what others think about this show.

In the two days it took me to tear through Season 1 I got little sleep. It was a show, for your reasons given, I was hesitant to watch. I gave the first one a chance and the addiction started. I don't have cable any longer so I am waiting for it to hit Netflix to see it but cannot wait.

Awesome show and nobody is safe so don't get attached to any one character.

One of my all-time favorite TV series...thank goodness it's not on a "mainstream" network like CBS, NBC, etc. I thought season 2 bogged down a little, in the middle, while they were stuck on the farm, but now that they are on the move again, look out! Very excited about the upcoming season.

Man, I hope they don't ever off Darren. He's my favorite character. But they have my blessing to get rid of Rick's son.

Farm, what farm? They are on a farm?

I almost cursed your day, kind sir, almost. But as I very slowly read your post one word at a time trying to avoid a spoiler, it never came.

I need to stop reading these threads and others about shows I am behind in. I am setting myself up for spoilers too and that's my fault.

Glad to see others here appreciate it as much as I do. It is one awesome show.

I saw where Season 2 is coming out on DVD in late August, so it will probably be the fall before it is available on Netflix.

I really enjoy watching a series on Netflix without any commercial interruptions. It does take over my life though, as I will watch several episodes in a row, sometimes into the wee hours of the morning.

It's a very good show, one of my favorite series along with Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire.

I'm just REAL nervous because as I type this, U-verse's agreement w/ AMC expires at midnight tomorrow (Sat.), so who knows.

Yeah, it sure seems like the writers left open the possibility for Merle to return at some point (albeit with one less hand). Also, casting a well-known actor like Michael Rooker in that role seems to make it more likely that he'll return.

Not having seen season 2 yet, I was wondering if Merle would be returning, because Michael Rooker was so great in that role.

I had to google it and found the following screenshot from the upcoming season 3:

I've read the graphic novels and I think I know what they are going to do with Merle. No spoilers here, but it's going to be awesome. Besides which I don't really know because they have diverged on so many characters and aspects. And by the way, the tv show blows away the novels.

Has anyone seen TNT's total ripoff series Falling Skies? They even have a guy with a 6" barreled stainless steel Colt Python.
Aliens instead of zombies. Very lame in comparison to Walking Dead.

there's a lot of good tv out there. Don't be fooled by the anti-tv types that say tv sucks right now. Even the networks have some great current series.

Looks like Rick will be undergoing a transformation of sorts in Season 3.

First thing he needs to do now that he's disposed of Mike Tyson's brother, is invite the zombies to dinner and put the mentally unstable Lori and annoying brat Carl on the menu.

I thought Daryl was the psycho in season one, but he may have the most sense of them all now.

i only watched half of the preview special. chris hardwick is annoying and drew carey was an odd choice.

that being said, i'm excited to see new rick take over with more of a survival mentality instead of a save everyone mentality.

when does the new season start again?

Dish better get it together and agree to terms with AMC by October. At least I still have the Viacom channels, sorry direct customers.
