In fairness, both the "leave the conference" and "boycotting" threads were roundly ridiculed by nearly every poster except for the OP.
In all honesty I feel for them a bit. That had to be an incredibly painful loss on Saturday the way it played out. I know there's a lot of hard feelings between Huskers and us about the formation and early years of the conference, but by and large we've had our way them for so long I can understand some bitterness now.
I had motivation problems today, and I spent an hour there. Trust me, there are some friggin crazy posters there. Looked no different than TexAgs. Yes, the leave the conference thread on the front page was lambasted, but more so for suggesting they join the SEC.
Would I be bitter? I'd be more pissed at our kicker, for kicking it out of bounds than an officiating crew for doing the right thing.
Yep. Unfortunately, I just went over there. The most obscene post was from the idoit who stated that he hoped the Marine who was killed in the game-related fight was the Texas fan. To their credit, many members of the board came down on him, at which point he claimed he was being sarcastic. Riiiggghtt. Those people need to get a grip on reality. And fast.
There is a 2 or 3 page thread on "the field game clock" and then they go on to talk about the stadium game clock. One guy at the ends gets it right, and that is the official time is kept by the refs on the field not the stadium clock keeper.
Case in point. At the beginning of the 3rd quarter, the field refs asked the stadium clock keeper to adjust the game time on the clocks.
Furthermore, if you look at the end of the game the refs tell NU to get back on the sideline as soon as they run on the field.
Huskerpedia is just as bad, if not worse. For two straight days, there was almost nothing but conspiracy theories, cheating accusations and general wishes of ill will towards everything Texas (except recruits, of course).
Most of the responses to the article in the Omaha paper which described the post-game antics of the Pelinis and Dr. Tom were level-headed. About every 4th one, though, sounded like it came from a Huskerpedia poster.
Husker fans are really no different than most fans. They are much more gracious when winning. Give them 3 or 4 straight over Texas and they'll revert to their former classy selves. Only problem is I doubt they'll win more than 2 out of every 5 against us.
I also live in Husker country, so i know a little about how they truely view the Texas Longhorns.
Their volleyball coach was quoted by ESPNU as saying that the Husker fans at the Texas v. Nebraska volleyball regional final would have the football game on their mind. I didn't help. Our volleyball gals ended their volleyball season. FInal Four baby!
Now there is a topic over there about what do about Texas and the Big 12. It degenerates into bitterness about UNL losings its ability to sign illiterate football players, hence the demise of their program. This fact is blamed on UT, even though the votes at the time were 11-1.
Hard to blame them for being bitter. Our "relationship" with them pretty much began by us costing them a MNC. Now our last two wins over them were on last-second field goals when they should have had the game iced away. So, yeah, I can imagine the average fan is frustrated. Also it is freaking cold and boring in Nebraska this time of year.
Nebraska is my second favorite team in the conference and I'm somewhat disappointed after reading some of those posts. Man there are some bitter people on that site. I hope most normal Husker fans are not like that.
