The True Costs of 9/11

What wonderful left-wing drivel.

Perhaps OBL's success was made possible by 8 years of Clinton tearing our defenses down.

Our collective response to every OBL act before this one was one giant and collective yawn.

Screw Clinton, but it wasnt just HIS fault. Our intelligence basically looked the other way while the highjackers were in this country. We knew the World Trade Center was a potential target by flying aircraft, and in the years leading up to 911 we just ignored all the warning signs. This includes the Bush administration.

Man I hope this doesn't descend into a "who was responsible for 9/11" thread, because it is actually a "what are the true costs of our reactions to 9/11" thread.

You are right Bevo. The cost of 911, the cost of these wars and the losses of our civil liberties are beyond imagination. We are now a country that cowers because someone might try to attack an airplane. We are groped, fondled, told what to do, spied upon, etc, all in the name of security. We are broke and are just about in a depression.

The costs have been enormous. It didnt have to be that way, and it can change, but not if we continue to elect the same stooges that belong to the same fraternity.

US debit per day during office.

8 years Clinton = $500 million per day

8 years Bush = $1 billion per day

(9-11-2001)
3 years Obama = $4 Billion plus per day

It doesn’t matter it the politician as an R or a D after their name. I35 shows the truth. There are powerful interests who don’t give a **** about political party. They love that the majority of this country fights with itself over stupid fallacy (ad hoc, ad homonym, slippery slope) and emotional driven rhetoric instead of giving a **** what THEY do to rape us for all we’re worth. Almost every damned post on this forum proves that.

Somebody puts an reputable economist talking about the costs of 9/11 and half go into defend their party mode. Right guys… Who gives a **** as long as your ******* party isn’t being disrespected.

I'll tell you what drivel in you posted. The stance of the Left Wing for the last several years has been that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Fair enough, they just annexed a country beside them, the UN kicked them the hell out of the same country and then they proceeded to violate all the treaties they agreed to with the UN. So Bush took action, with the blessings of the UN and the US congress. Now this article wants to frame it around the "cost of 9/11". Time magazine did the same damn thing with their 10th Anniversary addition.
Did Iraq cost too much? Damn right it did. But you cannot continue the left wing drivel that Bush acted on his own in Iraq. That is absolutely false. You cannot attribute Iraq to the "cost of 9/11" when your side has been saying Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Either they did or they didn't. Stay with your message already. If you want to see acting alone, without UN or Congressional approval, see our actions in Libya.

If 9/11 doesn't happen, there is no way Bush rallies the support domestically or internationally to invade Iraq. The Invasion of Iraq was a result of 9/11, therefore the Iraq war was a cost of 9/11. It isn't that hard, and there's nothing left-wing about applying the logic.

The real cost of 9/11 is that it gave Democratic partisans a diversion to avoid talking about the biggest things on which our government spends money. Instead of dealing with the costs of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security (which make the War in Iraq look like a Happy Meal), we can scapegoat the War and ignore the real drivers of our budget problems.

For the record, I oppose the Iraq War and think it was a mistake. I also think Bush was a bad President. However, we need to be addressing the truly large ticket items in the budget. Blabbing about the War in Iraq while ignoring them is counterproductive.

We need to address it all, yes Deez. We also need to address our financial system. We need to let banks and companies fail. We keep printing and inflating and going deeper and deeper into debt that we cant repay.

This country is technically bankrupt and insolvent. To say otherwise is to have heads in the sand. We dont have any money. Any. Its all a mirage. We have to change this, reverse this.

The Democrats controlled Congress completely from 2007 - 2011 and they could have removed the Iraq war funding at any point.

Carry on with the Bush bashing.

That was a key showdown in the late Bush years. Pelosi and democratic controlled congress tried to bluff and force Bush to announce a troop withdrawal or they would cut funding. In the end they knew they could not cut funding to the troops that were already deployed and already not getting the real funding and supplies that they needed. They had to back down and they did. When President Obama took over we immediately saw some action to withdrawal troops. Something that could and should have been done years earlier. But ya know, ya gotta protect those Haliburton pipelines. And good thing we did b/c the price of gaseoline at the pump has really gone down and we are just reaping the rewards of our invasion of Iraq...ya know, a country that never posed a real threat to us or attacked us.
