The Torch Passes in the Democratic Party

I watched the endorsement of Obama by Caroline Kennedy, Patrick Kennedy, and Sen. Edward Kennedy. And it struck me how momentous it was what I was watching. Since 1960, the Kennedy family has been the royalty of the Democratic Party. Democratic politicians have for decades jealously coveted their backing. In any event, it was nonetheless unheard of for the Kennedys to take sides in the primaries.

But all that changed today. I watched today as the hope of the Democratic Party passed from JFK to Barack Obama. No Democratic president has been held in such reverence since JFK. And it is momentous when JFK's family so fervently embraces Obama. This is a real coup, and should swing a significant number of Democrats from Edwards and Clinton to Obama.

The slap in the face, nay, kick in the gut, this is to BOTH Bill and Hilary Clinton cannot be understated. They are of the generation that drew their inspiration from JFK and the Kennedys. And for decades they have courted the Kennedy, boorishly seeking their approval, and acceptance. Indeed, it is reported that the former president personally called Sen. Kennedy beseeching him not to endorse Obama, and Kennedy rebuked him. In fact, Sen. Kennedy took several swipes at HRC in his endorsement sppech, which I found stunning.

Bottom line, the great ghosts of the Democratic Party have resurfaced, the ghosts of JFK and RFK, and it appears to haunt Bill and Hilary Clinton, and to pass on their legacy to Barack Obama. And the Clintons have been asked to politely leave the Royal Palace of the Democratic Party -- because it appears they do not belong.

Here are some of Sen Kennedy's words:

Can't say I'm at all surprised. I have a lady in my office who's a big Dem fundraiser of the DLC bent, and after Iwoa I sent her an e-mail about how HIlary got smoked. Her first reaction was, you guessed it, "the Democratic party will never elect a female Presidential nominee because of the good old boy network."

The Clintons are a disgusting lot, and that is why folks don't like her. If she were a man, she'd get her *** kicked.

You know what this is REALLY all about? It really boils down to this-
HARVARD vs YALE

First GHW Bush, then Bill, then W, and now maybe Hillary? There have been too many Bulldogs in the oval office. 20 straight years of Bulldogs. Gore F'd it up in 2000 for the Crimson, and in 2004 Teddy had to back his fellow Massachusetts boy. (But he was a Yalie.)

The Kennedy's have just had too much of this Yale Bulldog ****! Teddy (H '56), Caroline (H '80), and Patrick (Providence College, but son of Teddy) couldn't stand by and watch another Yalie take over the House. (And Obama's Columbia->Harvard Law is the mirrored reflection of Caroline's Harvard->Columbia Law.)

So not only is this keeping the Clintons from being the last word in the Democratic Party, it's really a Cambridge vs. New Haven rivalry that just won't die.

I'm going to repeat what I said when NOW was mentioned in another thread a couple weeks ago. NOW hasn't been relevant in over a decade. I think we can feel pretty safe in ignoring whatever it is they have to say.
