The Terabyte...

...how do we abbreviate it in everyday speech? If something is 20KB we just say "20K"; 20MB, "20 megs"; and 20GB, "20 gigs". But how are we supposed to condense 20TB? I don't want to say "terabyte" all the time, I need something monosyllabic.

teras

But peta and exa will be here before the end of the decade so I wouldn't worry too much

About 10 years ago, I remember reading that "terrabyte" was the next step beyond "gigabyte." I was at a bar talking to some of my computer savvy friends and I asked them if they knew what the next step was. They didn't. So I told them and my friend, Steve said "like we'll ever get to that point."

And here we are, 10 years later, and you can buy a terrabyte HD.

why would the abbreviation end with a "b". none of the other ones have and they all have the word byte in them as well. i'll just go with tera.

"oh, man i'm running an 8 t hard drive."
