The team has quit.

Watching this game... I saw a bunch of guys who have quit. I think they realized early on they were going nowhere without Augustin and decided to mail it in. Unacceptable. What does this team do well? They play poor defense, poor offense, they choke when the game is on the line, they don't defend the home court.... I wish we could take the "Texas" off their jerseys.

They've quit... so I'm quitting on this team. See you next year when hopefullywe've got some guys who want to make plays, and who have the will to win cause watching this team, it is obvious there aren't many guys willing to do that.

I don't know if they've quit or if they are just lazy...But there is a lack of energy out on the court for Texas. The area I see that on the most is rebounding.

There are so many other things I could say but I don't see the point.

Biggest group of underachievers I've ever seen on the 40. At least Kaiser Bob's group of walk-ons and cheerleaders wanted to win.

If Mason is shooting 47% from the FT line, worse from the field and now can't play D why the F is he on the floor?? Good God, we can't even inbound the ball.

Third, I agree with you about quitting. That being said...I think you'd admit the energy level is terrible out there. There is a difference between running around looking like you are trying...and really having focused energy and the will to win. I don't see the latter out of this team.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think it's laziness. I think it's that we just don't have a very good collection of players.

I think the season has shown just how great DJ Augustin was.

This team is unwatchable. I wouldn't say that they quit, so much as they just don't care. It honestly looks like they just don't care. AJ and Damion are both playing for contracts. Mason, well I'm not even sure is a basketball player or just an athlete who happens to play basketball. Gary and Dexter are the only two guys who legitimately care about the team and about doing well.

The season is getting worse and worse and it seems like Rick cant/ wont do anything about it. Put Balbay as the damn PG, put Smith in the game if he can take it to the rack, put Hill in for hustle, do something. Next year cant get here quick enough.

The hustle is there. It's just that there is no flow or cohesiveness about this team. They play awkward because they do not know what exactly their roles are or they just can't perform that role.

I think there is something to that last comment. Probably the worst coaching job by Rick Barnes in his tenure at Texas. The players have mentally regressed, and Rick seems to have miscalculated quite a bit this year, as he had to find a way around not having a good PG to run the show. Now the team seems to be a bit of a mess. Unusual, because Rick has consistently shown the ability to mix and match properly and put a really good product out there - but that touch is missing this year.

Really, only Rick can fix this. There is still time to salvage the year. We do have some talent in this team but they are a bit lost right now and coach Barnes has not been able to solve the problems.

Abrams didn't quit jacking up 3's late in the game when there was a bunch of time on the shot clock and no rebounders.

I didnt see a team quit last night.

I saw a coach forget how to get back to basics... Rick, why leave the 2-3 when we were forcing turnoverr and bad shots?

Why take Balbay out the entire 2nd half? He's obviously the most polished PG we have, and this team obviously struggles while creating their own shots...

And lastly, why didnt we get away from banging them away down low? Dex was going off, why not get Damion down there to post some of their guys up? Mizzou lacks an inside game, and they love to run. We fell right into their trap, played their tempo, and lost the game.

Its not the team just giving up, Rick has got to get ahold of these guys or we will get embarressed come March.

whoever said Ward needs to leave, nice. he's a freshman.

i just don't understand wtf they were doing on that inbound with 5.5 left. they scored a handful of times last night moving the ball, under pressure, in about 5 seconds. just don't think there was the need for the long ball with that much time on the clock.

I am a big Rick Barnes fan, but he needs to look in the mirror on this one. How can your team/players get into a groove when they are constantly be yanked onto the bench for one mistake.

I read this morning that Balbay was pulled for the rest of the game because he did not follow instructions and drove up the sideline to break the press. Stupid move by Balbay? Absolutely. Should he have followed the coach's instructions? Absolutely. Was it so egregious be needed to be pulled for the rest of the game? Absolutely not. Even when Mason hurt his ankle, Barnes refused to put Balbay in. Just bad coaching, IMO. How can a kid redeem himself if you keep him out of the game? Mizzou was a bad defensive team and any offensive penetration could present a wide open shot for a post player with a nice dish., Balbay is our best offensive penetrator (even though he can't shoot). Just absurd.

And why did Abrams not take that Lawrence kid off the dribble all game until there was 3 minutes left. How can a coach not see that kind of mis-match?

Barnes has to only look in the mirror to see what the problem is. I am not saying he should worry about his job or anything, because that is absurd. He has done so much for this program. But I really think he is doing a dis-service for this team and the players.

This team could have quit a half-dozen times on Saturday, and was doing a good job of not quitting last night when it was up 12 in the first half, up seven in the second and regained the lead with about three to play.

In other words, that's just ridiculous.

The discouraging part is that they really are giving it all they have and it's not working. It's 2005 without the loss of Aldridge and Tucker.

This team really does need a PG who can make a shot... and so they have Jai Lucas, probably next December.

This team has a ton of problems, but quitting is not one of them.

Here's the bottom line in the Big 12 this year, folks....

OU and Kansas are by far the two best teams. Mizzou is also pretty good and might beat at least one of those two. The rest of the teams are average to horrible and could beat anyone on any given night.

I'm disappointed by last night's results, but talk of the team "quitting" makes me ill. Had Texas collapsed after falling behind by 5 midway through the second half and after suffering its fifth turnover in a 7 minute stretch, then you might say it quit.

Let's not forget James went into the game after needing an MRI on his knee and was originally questionable for the game. He gave it 27 minutes, getting 10 rebounds in that time, even though I thought he didn't have his normal hop. He didn't quit.

Mason hurt his ankle with 7 minutes to go, coming off the court nearly unable to walk. He was back in a couple of minutes later. He didn't quit.

Ward had more minutes than any game so far, and in the second half, he made the baseline drive for the reverse layup, drawing Carroll's fourth foul, that was the play that stopped Missouri run that was threatening to break the game open. I don't think he quit.

Pittman was getting offensive rebounds off missedfree throws and his own (rare) miss late in the game after playing 20 minutes. I don't think he quit.

I was warning people that Missouri is a very good team. Texas found that out last night.

I don't understand why Balbay only saw 1 1/2 minutes on the floor. I understand, though I don't necessarily agree with, a decision to sit Matt Hill because of the quickness of Carroll, Lyons, and Ramsey. Those guys didn't exactly get a chance to show their effort to the fans here.

Looking at the above, I find declarations that the team "quit" to be baseless.

Texas team quit? No. Texas fans quit. Absolutely! 9000 in attendance for a conference game is putrid even for Texas.

Husker, you are either being very sensitive to a pained fanbase or, maybe a tad nervous? I recall earlier in the week you were touting your Cornhuskers to prey on our pressure-challenged guards. And now with a huge game Saturday in Lincoln, you say apart from OU and KU, it's any Big 12 team can beat any team. Are you still liking your Cornhuskers? Texas has taken a better team into Big Red country and lost, so you should feel good. Me, I am hoping Texas has found an identity with Big Dex inside, and hoping we start pressing the snot out of other teams on defense. At some point Barnes will get desperate enough to mix it up, right? I liked baylor in Waco and was wrong, I like Texas Saturday. As in quit, my ***!

Saying the team is quitting is a very Aggiesque assessment.

Sometimes there are no magic answers and you just lose. We are not a national contender this year.

I wonder if we're just paying a price this year for the rapid turnover in quality players. Watching Dex last night, I began to wonder how many NBA players he's shared the court with in his years here. We don't have any top five picks this year.

I don't want to rag on Barnes either. The assumption that there is a coaching solution that could be found to ensure a victory every game is absurd. It's just a bad year by our recent standards.

We had a pretty crappy year in football in 2007. It led to a pretty good year in 2008. People don't come to Texas to lose and like it.

I agree completely with what Bevo's Buddy said. What puzzles me is aside from the bad pass, is that there didn't seem to be much movement by the other four players to receive the ball on the inbounds play.

Yeah, all 4 people on the floor seemed to be heading to the same spot. No scheme or designed play appeared to be drawn up. Or maybe the guys just did not run it. Very weird.
