The Tavern

The only sports bar I'd go to to watch a game. I've always loved the upstairs area. Good menu, lots of people, plenty of tvs.

Another Austin original that's fun to spend an evening in, especially if your team wins.
 
I was upstairs watching the a&m v.s. Wyoming game. My friends and I had a great time. My previous post about the service sucking does NOT apply to the waiter that night, Jo Jo. He kicked ***. He was the only one working upstairs. He ran tons of food and drinks. He was never too busy with the packed house to check with us and get our orders to us quickly. If the rest of the wait staff is as good, I'll spend my money there regularly. Never to far......
 
Always have a good time there. service does suck sometimes, but you get that anywhere when the staff walks out on you. must have been a bad night for the girl in our section.
 
I like the place. The appetizer sampler is yummy.

Rumor has it that Wyoming Cowboy fans frequent the place and make odd hand signs that confuse Aggies. So I heard.
 
An Austin institution since the 1930's, and it is Air Conditioned. But the last time I went there to try to watch a game, it was so damn smoky I had to leave. Recommended for chain smokers only.

No doubt Lone Star is an awful, awful beer. Many feel they have to chug it down for Texas pride and little else. Lots of other great brews in Texas to accomplish that same goal, however. Drinking Lone Star doesn't demonstrate your seemingly congenital lack of taste buds as much as it does your absolute laziness.

For the record, the Tavern sucks.
