That is what happens when your QB has 7 different O-Coordinators in 7 years along with the fact that the 'Skins aren't built to be a West-Coast offense team with guys like Portis, Moss, and Randel-El. They are built to stretch the field and their in-ability to do that tonight cost them the game.
Keep in mind that Washington was beaten by a combined score of 71-6 in their final two preseason games. Playing like that has them looking straight down the barrel of a 4-12 type season, if that.
I was happy that they did not allow the VaGiants to score any longer, even if they did not themselves. Things got locked down. If/when Campbell, as noted before, gets this system down, things could be okay. For a first game of the season being played in the Meadowlands v. the Super Bowl Champs I am okay with this game.
It'd be better if the Skins won but they didn't and as long as they get better as a result of it, no problem.
There is a reason why the Skins drafted two receivers and a TE early in the draft earlier this year. Danny Boy Snyder may still be a dingaling but Zorn's wise enough to know that those Lilliputan receivers aren't going to work in the WCO, and he was able to convince the top brass to address it on draft day.
A more glowing problem for the Skins is the OL, which is slow and unathletic. In particular, it's time to part ways with Chris Samuels, who hasn't been all that impressive now for three straight seasons.
