The sad Super-Regionals-with-no-Longhorns thread

Is anyone following college baseball now? Does anybody really care? I’ll pretend I do.

Stony Brook (who?) is knotted up with LSU in the top of the 12th (suspended for rain)

Arizona eked out a 7-6 win over St. John’s in the 10th

Florida State monkey-hammered Stanford 17-1

UCLA tops TCU 6-2

Yeah, I'm pulling for LSU. As a season ticket holder I'm sad for the absence of the Longhorns. But, they don't deserve to be there.

I have been watching all the games. Stony Brook- LSU was outstanding game until the rain came. SB lost the finish this morning after coming within a foul ball catch of winning in the 10th yesterday.

Yeah, LSU hit solo homeruns last night in each of the 9th, 10th and 11th innings to stay in the game. Epic. The Tigers finished the game off this morning (5-4) after only 10 minutes of play.

Arizona becomes the first team to punch their ticket to Omaha with a 7-4 victory over St. John's.

Stony Brook forces a third game with a 3-1 win over LSU.

Both games in Florida rain delayed (Florida leads NC State 7-0 in the top of 8; Florida St/Stanford has yet to begin)

Holy Cow! Stoney Brook is up 6-1 over LSU in the fourth inning of the final game to go to Omaha.
Stoney Brook had a paid attendance of 5800 fans this year. That's not per game, that's for the season. LSU averages 10,000 per game.
Amazing Cinderella story, just to get this far.

I've been dead to baseball since the season ended. I thought Stony Brook was a high school team until I read this thread.

They were Division III just a few years ago. When they hired their coach, they were DIII and he had to teach some classes to earn his salary. They had never been to a regional, they were the #4 seed in Miami and won it. And one of their players is studying to be an anesthesiologist, which I doubt is the case at LSU for some reason.
The Stoney Brook pitcher is tossing a one-hitter so far, although it was a home run.

Stoney Brook 1-out away from sending the Geaux Tigers fishing.

Correction... it's over. They're on their way to the College World Series.

LSU has played NCAA 17 series at that stadium and seldom lost. (If I heard the announcer correctly).

They just lost to the equivalent of a 13-seed winning to go to the Sweet 16. That's how significant this series win will be remembered.

The LSU 3rd basement was SEC Player of the Year.

I hear LSU is going to hire and then fire Tommy Harmon to make the fans happy.

Outstanding series for Stony Brook...

So far we have the usual suspects (except us) headed for the CWS: Florida, UCLA, Arizona and Florida State, and now the Stony Brook Seawolves, my new favorite team.

Game 2 for Oklahoma/S. Carolina is postponed until tomorrow (rain), and Kent State is up 2-0 over Oregon in the top of the 6th.

Stony Brook totally outplayed LSU in all 3 games. When they gave away the first one, I figured they were cooked, but NOT. They have outstanding at bats, never over-swinging, fouling off a lot of balls, forcing lsu pitchers to throw a lot of pitches. The defense and pitching was excellent. I think LSU only had 15 hits total for the 3 games.

Now if Kent St. can hold the lead on Oregon, I'll have 2 teams to root for in Omaha.

While I was a happy detached fan pulling for Stoney Brook, I saw on ESPN2 after the game, the LSU fans down nearest the playing field congratulating the Stoney Brook players. High-Fives, etc. It was going on in several places around the field. Some SB players were moving along a high fence area and jumping up to the Tiger over-reaching hands slapping congrats.

I must say, impressive. Shows they're solid enough fans to see the loss as 'best team won' and then, as fans of the game, congratulate them.

Re: Shows they're solid enough fans to see the loss as 'best team won' and then...

Time will tell if the Oregon fans are cut from the same cloth if the Golden Flashes ground the Ducks.
