I'm convinced the RR hall of fame is a joke. I don't necessarily pass attention to who's inducted on a yearly basis, but take a look at this list.

Can someone tell me why Run DMC would be inducted when bands like Chicago, ELO, The Moody Blues and Genesis aren't in?

Funny, take out Zeppelin and that is probably my top 5.

Heart and the Cars too.

Rush and KISS are two biggest oversights, IMO.

The RnRHOF is ruled by Jan Wenner and the Rolling Stone group of music critics. Don't forget that RS panned EVERY Led Zeppelin album when that was released. It was only much later that they jumped on that bandwagon.

political correctness. Chicago is probably one of the 10 greatest bands of all time. Genesis should be in, actually all of those poeple should get in eventually. I thought Kiss and Chicago were in. I thought i saw them on that induction show once but it must not be the case.

The Sex Pistols were inducted in 2006 and "politely declined" to attend the ceremony via letter.

Text of the letter:

"Next to the Sex Pistols, rock and roll and that hall of fame is a piss stain. Your museum. Urine in wine. We're not coming. We're not your monkeys. Fame, at $25,000 if we paid for a table, or $15,000 to squeak up in the gallery, goes to a nonprofit organization selling us a load of old famous. If you voted for us, hope you noted your reasons. Your anonymous as judges but your still music industry people. We're not coming. Your not paying attention. Outside the ****-stream is a real Sex Pistol."

When I saw that Carole King wasn't in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame my jaw hit the ground. I did the wikipedia thing and read that she is in as a songwriter (over 100 charted hits).

Her going in as a performer is an interesting topic. Tapestry was so monsterously successful (both critically and commercially- over 20 million sold) that it has eclipsed the rest of her solo work. Personally, I think she should go in because of her importance to the female singer-songwriter movement (along with Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon) and her influence on future generations of female performers (plus I admire her determination to make it as a performer- it took over 10 years to finally get over the hump).
