Yea for last place Nebraska coming to Austin on Saturday! This game is important for springboarding this team into the final stretch of conference play. The problem is though is that none of games after NU are sure wins, given that Mizzou is super tough at home and the other teams have already beaten us (besides Tech and aggy), and many of them are at their place. How do y'all see us finishing?

Me? Let's see...
2/13 NEB - W 1-8 in conference, but still... nothing is a given at this point
2/17 @ Mizzou - L - aggy beat them to end a super long home winning streak, but can we do the same?
2/20 @ Tech - W - They hit every shot it seemed, but their luck won't last a 2nd time
2/24 OKST - W - Homecourt advantage makes the difference
2/27 @ aggy - L Haven't won there in a while and I dont see that changing this year
3/01 OKLA - W - Suspended players - They played waaay over their heads in Norman
3/06 @ BAY - W - We steal a win here somehow

This would put us at 10-6 in conference and 23-7 overall. If this happens, then we may not still be able to secure a 1st round bye in the Big 12 Tourney. Personally, I wouldn't mind an opportunity to get at least 1 more win before the big dance, but 2 would be great and if we are the 5 seed then we'd get the 4 seed, possibly aggy. Ooh wee that would be nice to knock them out.

"home court advantage"....i don't think so...
As disappointing as our play is, the Hum-Drum crowd is even worse.

Now granted KU was ranked no. 1 and we all knew their fans would show up, but there were plenty of jbird fans in the lower bowl not just mezzanine.

We are a football and baseball school when it comes to both home and away fan support.

^^^^^lack of responsiveness to basically the entire basketball board is exhibit A...almost all have given up bball this year. What a colossal collapse after being no. 1 (yes, undeserved and premature but still we were ranked no. 1 for the first time ever).

Agree with above poster. Ennui has set in. That KU game was just the most miserable basketball game I have watched in a long time. Talk about a spirit-breaker. I'd consider it a major accomplishment for us to finish 10-6 in conference, but I do not expect it.

Going to be very difficult for Texas to win on the road, they may win at Tech? I can see them finishing 9 - 7. Hopefully next year they can help at point guard.

10-6, 9-7, doesn't make much difference. We need more games, maybe Rick can decide on a set lineup, maybe we can go from no bye to getting to the final of the conf. tourney.

The thread's intent is to hear what yall's predictions are for the remainder of the season. I agree that apathy has set in to our fanbase... I also agree that we don't have too much of a homecourt advantage... I even agree that Rick Barnes has totally underachieved this year.

There are probably 10 threads about each one of these issues. I'm not being a sunshine pumper, but I am trying to get some idea of what the experts on this board predict us finishing out the regular season.

Despite our recent struggles, I'd agree that predictions about individual games and a 10-6 record is a likely scenario.

That's a bit short of the 12-4 that was a 'realistic' expectation of what our conference record should have been. The home loss to Baylor shouldn't have never happened. And, I'd actually expect us to have taken UK down at home.

I 'd also agree we need to make a good run in the Big 12 tourney to help bolster our case for a better seeding in the NCAA tourney. So, it would be best if we could claw our way back to a 3 seed in the Big 12 tourney, so we didn't have to face KU until the final.

We'll lose 3 of the 4 road games we have left ... 2-2 is best case, IMO.

Anything better than that and the bandwagon will begin picking up steam in time for March ...

BB16,
Try to remain positive about the non-positivity. You've been doing a great job so far. Don't give up now.

If we can win 1 of 3 at Mizzou/A&M/Baylor, we might finish at 10-6. Then again, we could also poo the bed at Tech or vs. OU/OSU, so who knows.

The optimistic side of me says 10-6. The pragmatic side of me says 9-7. Negative side says 8-8 with losses to Mizzou, A&M, OU and possibly Baylor.

Honestly I started out with 9-7 with a loss @ Baylor to end the regular season, but changed it on a hunch to 10-6. I really have no idea why... their zone defense gives us fits.

Baylor punking us in our own gym may have a reverse affect on our chances of winning there.

If we had beat them here, we would continue to be complacent about beating them every time. Now, it'll definitely be viewed as a payback game for us.

Meanwhile, their guys may be think - hey, we already beat them in Austin.

Ya think I won't be using those airline tickets I bought to Indianapolis for early April . . . ? Me too.

Oh well . . . I'll apply the funds to tickets to NU and KSU during football later this year.
