The only (part of a) chick-flick I've ever liked

Not a fan of chick-flix. Offhand can't think of one that I've ever liked to any significant degree. In fact, I walked out of Crimes of the Heart and You've Got Mail (Meg Ryan: boooooo!). Years ago the missus drug me to see Postcards From the Edge, which supposedly is a semi-autobiographical version of Carrie Fisher's young adult life. Anyway, did not like it much, but there was one absolutely fabulous scene. If you've seen the film, remember the ending? Damn, can Meryl Streep act (and sing!) or what?

Well, from what you said, I thought it was going to be better, but that just shows what expectations can do to you.

That's a Shel Silverstein song, by the way.

Doc, pick up (redbox, netflix etc) "It's complicated".

Streep, Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin. Greatness.

hornpharmd...no, I did not go willingly by myself; rather, the missus dragged me kicking and screaming into the theatre for these two. In the case of Crimes my wife stayed while I went to the screen next to it and watched The Color of Money. In the case of Mail my wife left with me...she thought it sucked donkey gonads, too.

There was one "classic" that I liked a lot, though not a chick flick in the same sense of many of today's films, and that was Picnic
, with William Holden and Kim Novak. They don't make 'em like that any more. As to needing to opening up my mind a little: Guilty as charged. Guess I regard chick-flix like I do vegetables.

I admit I sorta liked the chick-flick "Sliding Doors" with Gwyneth Paltrow. The script was predictably boring, but the concept was quite interesting. And they did a good job of portraying the two characters she became.

Somewhat along the same lines was "He Said, She Said." A romantic comedy where the same events were told and then retold from the perspective of each gender. It was clever twist on some otherwise well-worn material.

Lastly is "Like Water for Chocolate." Total chick flick but I dont care, I would watch it again tonight. Best "food-based" film ever? Makes me hungry just thinking about it.

I find that if it has Ann Hathaway or Rachel McAdams, I can pretty much put up with anything that doesn't involve a lot of spontaneous musical numbers or scenes where they all dance around the kitchen singing into giant wooden spoons and/or other kitchen appliances.

I'm not even sure Joe versus the Volcano is a chick flick. That was a "I didn't think to check the listings and just showed up at the theater, and all the good stuff was sold out" flick

You've Got Mail is one of my favorite chick flicks (i'm a chick-flick aficionado you could say) so take my opinion for what it's worth... But my favorite scenes from chick-flicks are:

1: Ducky singing in the record store in Pretty in Pink
2: Billy Crystal yelling about the 'stupid roy rogers garage sale wagon wheel coffee table'
3: Any of the scenes with Joey Jr in While You Were Sleeping, especially when he talks about 'leaning'
