How long has that place sat vacant? (with the exception of the bums that periodically make it their home.) Obviously prime real estate, but nothing's happened on that property in years.

We ate dinner there years ago. Saw a big waterbug roach on the wall behind our table, so it would be interesting to see what's in there now.

I've lived in Austin all my life (38 years), and that place has been closed almost as long as I can remember.

Seems like it's been closed since the late '80's. I thought someone might have tried to put something in there once, because it looked like there was some construction going on, but then nothing came of it.

I've always wondered what the problem with the place was, as well. Zoning maybe?

Memories, memories.

That place opened up in the late 70's I think (maybe early 80's). I worked down the street at the Pelican's Wharf, and after work we would sometimes go to the Tree House if Extreme Heat was playing to listen to music and dance. One of our cocktail waitresses was living with the drummer so she always made sure we were on the comp list.

Is this that place on Barton Springs kinda over by Vinny's? Yeah, it's been vacant since at least the mid-80's if not before. I seem to remember hearing rumors of mob connections to the place. Not sure if that's true or what it would have to do with why it's sat empty for so long.

My parents actually sold our house to the original owners of McKittrick's (sp?)Treehouse I think it was called.
I always wondered about them as well......

......the owners that is, not my parents.

I started at UT in '85 and it was closed then. I'm surprised that nothing has ever been done with it.

I was a living in Austin about four years ago and researched the old place. I am still a freelance writer but now living in Memphis.

It opened in 1977 as Mackedrick’s Treehouse, then became Lola's and finaly just "The Treehouse." It closed sometime between May and December of 1986. Here is the article..

Time do fly.

I wish somebody would write an article about a true Austin icon called the Stallion.

More ...uh, grease went through that place than through all the geese in the world. Miss that ol' yella gravy on their chicken frieds.
