The montage of Dwight trying to render his testicles useless was the best moment of the season, by far. Mostly because this has been a horrible season. But I don't think I can get the image of him putting his junk by the microwave out of my brain.
TBS ran a string of shows from the first season last week. It made me realize just how much the show has evolved (devolved?) from the edgy, uncomfortable show it started out as into a more traditional sitcom.
The change was probably inevitable because, unlike the original British series, the show didn't start with a projected endpoint. As it continues on, the Office has decided to make Michael more a lovable dunce than a boorish, clueless, needy tyrant.
As a result, the workplace becomes less oppressive and we have an episode like the latest one where the office workers are mobilizing to help Michael rather than just suffering through his presence.
Also, I could give a rat's *** about Jim and Pam being tired because they have a baby. My heart sank a little in the episode where we discover that Pam is pregnant. Writers and producers cannot avoid walking us through every cliche about that process. I often wonder if this appears in a story because some of the key producers are having children and, like most new parents, think they've discovered a whole new wonderful world.
The show is really limping along now, and it saddens me.
