Moderators: I just could not force myself to start this thread on "other sports." I thought it deserved better publicity. Sorry.

Awesome. Must have been Hancock that pushed us to number 1.

Two observations thugh: Population 1.5 million? Must be greater Austin. And Austin is the economic pride of Texas? Hmm

That's a surprise to me. I've always thought the courses here pretty much sucked.

Uninteresting design plus horrible grass is not a winning combination.

Having Orlando and Vegas on that list virtually invalidates it. Both places are very expensive because of endless tourists.

I agree with Traffic. I've never thought the courses around here, at least the affordable ones, were anything special, and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of them compared to Houston or Dallas.

It's nobody's fault, it's just that by and large, the topography and the grasses we have aren't really conducive to world class golf. But you can certainly play pretty much year round, which is cool.

Suck it, Trebek.

We win - your town loses.

& I'm not a golfer. My dream has always been to find a course that's being closed & turned into something else, then the day after their last round, water down all the holes & run Bigfoot through there for about 3 hours.

the austin golf club is next to my new neighborhood. i was invited to go play there as a guest. it is an unbelievable course.

i just wish the dues and initiation fees werent so high!

i am not surprised Austin won this award.

I'll second the emphasis on the quality of weather in Austin and add the importance of affordability. Sure, you can shell out $100-200 to play the Myrtle Beach, Pinehurst, Pebble, Bob Hope, or Phoenix courses, but it's sure nice to be able to play for much less money.

The swing's the thing. I would enjoy golf in a cow pasture. I don't particularly care about the quality of the grass or the smoothness of the greens. My objective is to perform to the best of my ability against all obstacles and defeat the person I am competing against under any conditions.
