The Mason Technical

Enlighten me.

Why was it called? What did he say??

Seems weak for a ref to call a T for someone saying something under his breath. Did he complain about the call??

That was clearly the turning point of the game.

One could say it was the difference in a 3-pt game.

Hook'em!!!

The quote, according to Mason in the postgame, was "Open your eyes" to Damion James.

Mason said the ref thought he was talking to another player -- I guess he must have thought it was toward a Tech player.

It was a blown call by the ref, but you don't take back a foul.

Anyone have a clip of it? I heard Craig Way saying something about the ref sticking his finger in Justin's face after calling the foul.

Yeah, they freaking cut out of our game right when it happens, and when they came back you could see Rick telling the official to not pit his finger in Justin's face.

"Open your eyes."
Seriously? Even if Mason said it to someone from the other team, how often does a ref T-up someone for that?

I'm thinking the ref thought Mason was talking to him.

And the ridiculous part is that Mason gets a personal foul in addition to the two FTs Tech gets.

That's a joke. They should change it where only techs caused by physical acts should warrant a personal foul in addition to the T.

I understand that I may be completely wrong here, but Mason was talking with a Tech player right after the foul. You could see on tv that it was a back and forth.

my random opinion is that the official told him to cool it, but Mason still jabbed at the Tech player. I could see him talking on the foul line and bet that's what happened

I was at the game and yes, the ref lost his cool and pointed his finger right in front of Mason's nose. Of course the tech fans loved it.
But I think the game turned when coach Knight went after the same ref later in the game during a timeout. Not sure if they showed it on tv but Knight had to be restrained by other coaches. Then another coach went after the ref and had to be held back too. That ref never gave us a call after that. So it woked out for tech.
Also, #20 for tech is a major drama queen. AJ played him tight so he started to flop and exaggerate his arm and body motion, as if 110 lb AJ was plowing through him.
I have to say that our bigs let us down this game. It doesnt matter how good our guards are, its tough to win without inside help.

Any game with Shaw as a ref is a game that is decided for reasons other than the talent of the 2 teams involved.
