The Jimmy V speech

During the break between West Virginia v. Davidson and the Texas v. Villanova games ESPN showed the entirety of Jimmy V's speech from the 1993 Espy's. I remember watching that live when I was in college. I attended N.C. State at the time (before I transferred here to finish my undergrad at the 40 Acres), and I also was at an N.C. State v. Duke basketball game at which Jimmy V game a similar speech before tip off to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 1983 N.C. State championship team. He died a couple weeks after that game.

I still get emotional watching that speech today. In addition to Texas beating a ranked 'Nova team in Madison Square Garden, I am especially pround that Rick Barnes' squad is a part of the Jimmy V Classic.

Hell, I got emotional last night when Dickie V introduced him.

I watched it live too and tried to explain it to my wife in another room and couldn't really do it.

Hook'em!!!

The part that wrecks me is "don't ever give up, don't ever give up", where his voice drops on the second line.

i watch that speech a couple times a year. definitely something everyone should hear. very emotional.

ESPN.com won't work for me right now but on Lil Wayne's blog he says he got a "Laugh, Think, Cry" tattoo (that's the correct saying, right?) on his thigh and plans to get 2 more Jimmy V ESPY speech related tatoos. I'll try to post a link later

I can't hear that enough.

Has grown into a very big and special place in the Americana fabric.

Along with the MLK speech for me.

That inspirational...obviously on another level, but every bit as moving to your insides.

Love the speech. Thank goodness for the invention of DVRs b/c I was able to rewind it and watch it 3 times prior to the Texas/Nova game.
