This place opened up about a month ago, so I let them work out the kinks before giving them a shot. Here goes...

Food:

Chips/Salsa - 9 - Points scored for dual salsas, one served warm to touch. Would have been a 10 had it had a little more jack.

Made-at-the-table Guac - 8 - Yes it's a gimmick but you know it's fresh at least. I've had better guac though. Points scored for the waiter conspicuously cleansing his hands with a wet wipe before handling the food.

Cheese Enchiladas - 8 - Good, but didn't knock my socks off. Points scored for the onions.

Beef/Chicken Fajitas - 10 - Great flavor, hot tortillas, requisite fixins.

Drink:

Frozen marg. - 9 - Great flavor, potency.

Rocks marg. - 9 - same

Service: 9 - Would have been a solid 10 but chips and drinks got into the red zone twice.

Atmosphere: 10 - Nice decor, modern, not stuffy, a bit of a scene but not bad at all, and good talent on staff

Overall dining experience: 9, highly recommended. Good for family outing, date, pre-4th/6th warm up spot. Patio. $-$$$$: $$

Sincerely,
The Hungry Texan

I concur. Pretty good and a nice atmosphere. It will seem pricey to many...... most items are +/- 50% higher than typical TexMex eaterias...... but the quality is solid and fresh.

The colorado chain that opened up across from Changs is called Rio Grande. Laughable. The name, the origin, the look of it is all very cheap. Granted I haven't stepped foot in their door, I just thought everything to be very humorous. I hope that place doesn't see a year.

I thought cantina laredo was pretty damn good. Especially when they had free drinks!

I thought rio grande was average. The only neat thing was that its in the old real world house.

i really enjoyed laredo. went a couple of weeks ago. i had the relleno, and it was made with raisins and pecans like a relleno ought to be made. loved the hot sauce, and had some costa rica margarita or something that had amaretto in it that was really good and very potent.

also got a sizzling skillet apple pie with cinnamon ice cream that was great. they make a liquor coffee drink that has a big 2-3 minute production where they set the glass on fire to carmelize sugars and stuff before adding the coffee and three different liquors. didn't try it, but it looked great.

i'd highly recommend it, but yeah, it's a bit on the pricey side.

Cantina Laredo is Dallas based, which I guess is ok. At least it's Texas. But why bother with places like this when we have Polvo's, Jovita's, Maudie's, etc. etc. etc.
