The House That Ruth Built

As a baseball fan, I am sad to see it go. Once attended a Yankees - Red Sox game at Yankees Stadium. It was amazing. Had the same chills that I get during the Texas - OU game. Well, almost the same.

Whatever it's called, it will no longer be "The House that Ruth Built." Just think - this time next year, all of the New York ballparks that we old guys knew as youngsters - Yankee Stadium, the Polo Grounds, and Ebbets Field - will all be gone.

Fewer people, but more suites, club areas, & amenities.

Teams now have a model where they don't make that much money off of regular paying customers. It's the clubs & suites that really bring out the corporate dough. Subsidized by how those expenses are treated under tax law, you and I also foot the bill for those in an indirect way.

Make no mistake about it, there were several reasons to redo the North endzone of DKR. The primary one is the two rows of suites. The secondary one is the club. Everything else comes in distant third, fourth, & fifth.

The Yankee bean counters don't give a crap about their tradition or legacy. There is no reason for this stadium to go other than a chance to make more money, period. It is not in a state of decay or compromised safety. They just want money. More money to spend on high dollar players with no chemistry so that they can watch the playoffs at home.

Strawberry played every day. Gooden just played every 5th day.

Darry was the Strawberry that stirred the drink.
