The Horn

Vol Horn 4 Life

Good Bye To All The Rest!
For those not aware The Horn sports talk radio who was the Austin home of longhorn sports broadcasting is in the middle of a massive overhaul due to very serious financial issues. As of this point the entire broadcast crew has been let go except Erin Hogan, Rod Babers and a couple of production staff to run a 5 hour morning show. At this point the rest of the day will be national broadcasts with the hopes of starting a local afternoon broadcast in the not so distant future. They lost being the home for the Horns broadcasts which will move to The Zone 1300 next year. They have also sold of two of their 4 signals and now will only be broadcasting on 1260AM and 101.9FM. The FM frequency is very weak and I can barely even hear anything, but the AM is strong.

For me personally this is a complete shock because I've been listening to Bucky & Erin for over 20 years on my drive to work (starting back when they were on another network) and just like that Poof! The rest of the shows have changed over the years but they did a great job of keeping it local and relevant to what I really want to hear. Now it's going to be nationwide garbage shows like Jim Rome, etc.

Here's to hoping they can solve their issues and get back to local in the future!!

Is 1260 AM up and spewing electrons yet? I'm not in Austin and live out towards Mason, so hoping it gets over the horizon without having to bounce off cloud tops, which don't exist out here in the past 6 months. Will try to tune it in tomorrow and see what happens.

They are supposed to be off the air until Monday. The best way to listen to them is to get the app and stream.

1260 is running but as already mentioned the local AM show will not start up until Monday morning. They have been recommending the Horn app where you can stream the station. I have it and it works well for me when I'm out of town. They said they are working on improving that.

I already miss the local content. I've been listening the last two days and I don't care about the NFL nor MLB. I would love to hear more about how Bijan is doing in Atlanta.

I will also miss B & E in the mornings--they had the best intro, too. Loved hearing Vince Young's "Austin, Texas Baby!" every morning. I also liked Zay Collier a lot--I'd rather hear him with E Hogan than Rod Babers. Perhaps they'll bring him back. I hope that if the Horn isn't able to add an afternoon local show that the Zone will. If my only choice for sports talk in the afternoon is a national show, I'll listen to music.

Bucky is a good man and he did a lot of good with his Mullet Open and other charitable events. But the man is getting old and I understand why he is being put out to pasture.

He said on his last show that he won't be out long and that he'll end up somewhere. He also said that the Mullet Open will continue with or without the radio station.

FWIW, the national shows suck and I already hate it. All those guys do is try to make everyone think how smart they are and that caller opinions are dumb unless they agree with them. Not one word was spoken this morning that I cared about. This is going to get depressing.

Stopped listening to DFW sports radio years ago. Got tired of Gordo and the incest jokes about Donald and Ivanka Trump, then Donny Doo bragging about lying to his African hosts about Trump being a racist. No background, just hate. What happened to Love Trumps Hate?

My only hope is that Norm, who is retired, will continue his NFL Draft Picks in the Spring. Other than that, I'm out.

In north Austin I can rarely get anything on 1260, even at best it's about 33% static.

I enjoyed having the local shows on The Horn playing in the background while I worked or drove around, and now even when I can catch a signal I just shake my head. Flipped it on yesterday and was quickly reminded what an *** hat Rome is. I get why they had to do what they did but dang it...

Erin and Rod are on 6-11AM. I have to listen on the app, tho, as both the FM and AM freqs are pretty weak here in Dripping Springs.

For Bucky fans, he is on 8-10AM on Texas Sports Unfiltered. It's a Youtube channel and so I listen to that in the afternoon. He is with Brad Kellner, who left The Horn for Houston a year or so ago. They say they are also coming out with an app, but it's not ready yet.

Announced today TSU will be adding Zay Collier and Chip Brown show from 1-3pm starting Monday. TSU is being built with all The Horn's old talent they couldnt afford anymore.

More rebuilding of The Horn over at TSU. Mike Hardge joins the team on Monday going 10-Noon M-F. They now have a complete lineup from 8a-3p made up exclusively of Horn 104.9FM alumni. I wonder what Chad Hastings is doing?

Ok gurus, I always listen to Craig’s play by play at the games (might take me several minutes to find the right station) so what am I going to have to do to find him this year what with all the changes I’ve heard discussed on here?
yeah I complain about the broadcast delay but I still listen.

According to texassports.com, games are also available on these channels if you have Sirius or XM radio:

Thanks all, not sure how good reception might be for the online coverage or if my phone battery would hold up. Will try it if radio won’t come in which was frequently erratic in years past.
