Anyone ever been there? Good place or not a good place to go for the anniversary?

Any insight would be appreciated.

It is really nice but has a few drawbacks. First, the "activities" (horseback riding, entertainment in club, etc) are all booked well in advance, so you can get there and find your only activity to be in your room. If you like golf, there are three nice courses. Sam Snead's Tavern has good food at reasonable prices. If you are a coonservative, Pat Robertson lives up the hill near the airstrip. Interesting guy one on one. I sat with him for about 45 minutes while his wife shopped in a boutique. I had always wanted to go to The Homestead, and then it seemed they were resting on their reputation from the 20s thru the 70s. It was redone in the last decade and rooms are nice.

Compare it to The Greenbriar, which is about 20 minutes farther up I-64. You can be to the Greenbriar in the time it takes to get from 64 to The Homestead. It's a CCA property, but seems to have more activities and be better run than The Homestead. I think you may be much happier at The Greenbriar.

If you go, don't pass the opportunity to stop in Lexington and see W&L. Lexington is a really beutiful little town.

****, I'm a liberal and I would love to sit with Pat Robertson for a while.

Who wouldn't want to meet an interesting public figure?

Interesting guy and really easy to visit with. I was sitting on a park bench outside a couple of stores and he asked if he could join me. I don't know what I expected, but the strangest part was his continued opposition to women at W&L and how outspoken he was on the subject. He was also very opinionated on the Presidency of the Southern Baptist Convention, which at that time was held by someone I knew quite well. I enjoyed visiting with him, I'm sure the only time I'll ever have that opportunity.

would you pinheads stop talkin about stuff that's not The Homestead ?

The Homestead is in a beautiful setting and has great facilities. There are the old hot springs, a great golf course and the usual big hotel things. I Sam Snead's tavern was closed for renovation when we were there. It is not the easiest place to get to though. There is not that much else in Hot Springs where the Homestead is located. When we were in the area last October (after watching the ou game in Arlington VA) we went down to Hot Springs area. We didn't stay at the Homestead, but visited for the day. We stayed at the Fort Lewis Lodge which is equally hard to get to but in a beautiful setting. If you just want to get away from it all, do some hiking, and sit around, check that out. The room rate includes a very nice dinner. For what it's worth.

Fort Lewis Lodge looks awesome and a better price (including breakfast and dinner). I think I'd choose that over the Greenbrier and the Homestead. I think the Greenbrier also has a dress code - does the Homestead?
