The Heat Index

Seriously, somebody thinks the Heat are going to break the single-season win record?

Interesting.

Doubtful. Only 10 losses for a season is no longer possible with the way defenses have changed things up since the mid-90s.

I'm guessing this Heat team could hold their own against the 1996 Bulls, but that doesn't mean they're going to get 72 wins this year.

I wonder if ESPN has taken the precaution of investing in knee pads for their coverage of the Heat this season.

I absolutely despise the Lakers, but i may be cheering for them in the finals IF the Heat make it there.

If Wade's injuries get the best of him, the only thing ESPN will be able to talk about for an entire basketball season is "what could have been" for the Heat.

At the moment the Heat are losing to Boston 86-80 with under a minute to go. Slight hiccup on the way to the single-season wins record.

They walked in knowing they were going to lose last night. Without Wade for the preseason, they knew there would be some continuity problems early on. And you could see it every time the shot clock got down to 10, because the "Big 3" would all look at each other and wonder whose turn it was to take the shot.

Boston, although old, looks like the most complete team in the East. If their big guys can avoid injury/fatigue, I have no clue how anyone in that conference will make it to the finals ahead of them.

Well, first of all the level of athleticism in the league has improved over the last 14 years. So while Michael Jordan was great, he's probably the only guy on the Bulls that would be at the strength level of the majority of Heat guards/forwards.

The Bulls might have better role players (Kukoc, Rodman), but the output of the Big 3 could range anywhere from 55-70 points per night, and the Bulls would have to match it with 4 or 5 guys. Plus, James, Bosh, and Haslem are good rebounders, so it wouldn't be like the 90s when no one was even close to Rodman with rebounds.

I feel that if MJ is averaging a triple double, the Heat all stars wouldn't have to because they can alternate which guy is getting the most looks each night.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Bulls beat the current Heat, but I also wouldn't be surprised if the Heat beat the Bulls in a 7-game series.

Apparently the Heat have hundreds of tickets available for the home opener.

Thats what really sucks about the whole thing. You ditch a place that loves basketball for a place that couldnt give a ****.

Cleveland is a great sports town and Miami is anything but that.

Miami is a **** sports town. They had empty seats during early playoff rounds in 2006 when they won the whole thing against the Mavs.

I think the Marlins averaged like 16K in attendance the years they won the World Series. I know they were next to last in the league in 2003.

It's the "I'd-rather-be-doing-etc." syndrome. Happens in Los Angeles too. There's a lot of stuff to do, particularly at night.

I'm not even sure the Heat are the 3rd best team in the East. Both Orlando and Boston seem to have more complete teams. I wouldn't be surprised if the Heat won the East, but I could also see them not getting to the Eastern Conf. Finals. Their depth is non-existant.

They were actually making fun of the Heat on ESPN earlier, saying that it looks like they will only be 80-2 this season - check that, 79-3.

The great prognostications in re the Heat are necessarily a double edged blade. By design. The media types want to appear to be detached and still on board with whatever might excite fan interest. So they pay two sides. They also want to have the best bang for their effort, so they want the Heat to seem giant in order to more easily attack and exploit any perceived short comings. They are going to keep the Heat on the burner, you can bet.

Heat lose again tonite. They may get to 10 losses before Christmas. Celtics have their number.

Couldn't happen to a better group of guys. The guy I'm starting to feel a little sorry for is the coach. Sets up nicely for Riley to step in and save the season (which was probably the plan anyway).
