The hat's about to land in the ring

One thing I see a lot is excuses for a coach not having his recruits to work with. But shouldn’t part of the decision to accept a job be the analysis of the current roster and a plan to make an immediate impact? That’s what I see with UM. He wouldn’t likely consider it if he couldn’t coach this same bunch.

Dude's been here for 3 plus years, will be 4 in about 3 months. That excuse doesn't fly anymore. No good coach every complains about the ability of players - they coach them up, and get good ones to replace the duds.

That stat about the 6 losses is eye opening to me. Don’t have the answer myself but I do enjoy listening to you guys propose options. I love HF.

My guess is that Meyer would immediately turn these players into winners. That’s what he seems to do.

I want to win. Badly.

But not Urban Meyer-badly. He ran a trash program at Florida.

One of Meyer’s Gators was charged with making 70 charges on a credit card that belonged to a woman who had died in a motorcycle accident. (USA Today)

No, thanks.

If not Meyer and Texas has to go deeper into the abyss for a coach..... Bob Stoops. No there will not be a NC, but he knows how to win a bunch of games.

Get real, Texanne. That's minor kid's stuff. What about the murderS (that's plural), sexual assaults (do you give him credit for the ones done by recruits), aggravated assaults (with a weapon)?

Oh, I agree, his team was a bunch of rotten people. I was going to copy the entire list but got distracted.

Yup.

I don't recall DKR (or Brown) ever complaining about their recruiting, ability of his players, etc. re: results... DKR had 3 back to back 6-4 regular seasons from 1965-1967. A few were saying the game had left him behind. DKR turned around a terrible program he inherited from Ed Price in 1957.

DKR had a number of key injuries each of those 3 - 6-4 seasons as I recall. Lot's of good conference competition with some very close loses. Fortunately he had a NC under his belt in 1963 and a runner up in 1961 & 1964 plus several other very good seasons. Most of you know the history of how he turned all that around in 1968, 1969 & 1970....

Herman has no history much less good will to fall back on at UT ... time for him to step up!

Urban Meyer would bring multiple championships to Austin, but more importantly bring it back to relevance as a Blue Blood after the disastrous hires of Charlie Strong and Tom Herman. I say do it.

This thread is hilarious! Where’s the damn fire Tom Herman thread? That could really be off the charts.

I'll be very surprised if TH is fired and UM is hired. Bob Stoops is retired, period. Urban Meyer would come here and great players would flock to the 40 acres. He's a winner but as most posts here suggest, Texas fans don't like winning. There's too many "yes, but" questions/concerns.

This thread is starting to earn my interest.
Bringing in Meyer would be a good “investment.” He could “stock” up on talent and then “bond” with those players. The days of the program being “devalued” would be over.

I would rate him a “buy & hold.” You can “bank” on it.

Mack Brown was retired, period. Besides Stoops coached in the XFL. The ego in these guys will not let them fully walk away. There is always that one job they will take.
It would be interesting indeed if the coach who dominated Texas would come out of retirement to coach Oklahoma’s arch rival. XFL was no stress. Stoops’ dad died of a heart attack on the football field. He always said that wasn’t happening to him.
