The hat's about to land in the ring

He's beat this drum so much at this point there is no option but to sell our soul and hire him as our next coach

I did not see this live video before the game and I was not aware of the tension between Meyer and Herman... thanks for sharing.

He has politiced behind the scenes for a while, and was smart enough to know that Herman would do all the work for him. Now he is easing out of the closet, while using Herman as his campaign manager.

Sabre - you would know better than most on these boards, Meyer has some baggage and I don't think UT would seriously consider hiring him regardless of what happens to TH in the next year or three.

Am I wrong?

I think it is personal between he and Herman and I think Meyer would not only come to Texas, he would also do it as a self-satisfying dig. Are we at the stage with this program where we'd hire a win-at-all-costs mercenary like Meyer? Are the fans ready? Would the administration bring in a coach with as much baggage as Meyer? I don't know.

All I know is the next hire must be a slam dunk, proven ball coach. No more fliers...

And that's a real short list.

Should we have brought Mack back?

What stood out to me is Fox has two guys who got beat by Texas and the video clip of TH on the sideline, he looks like an even bigger tool than he usually is wearing a freaking face shield. Wow.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. No one on this board has been more critical of Meyer than have I. We must change and change soon, but that requires bringing in someone that will take charge, right the ship & jettison the dead weight.

The players either buy in, straighten up, or ship out. Coaches that can and will do that are (1) Nick Saban and (2) Urban Myth. If you prefer #1, visit the grave of little Billie Powers and express your disgust. #2 has been quietly bucking for the job behind the scenes. (I have been loudly opposed) Now he's starting to come out, and he has a platform to deliver. Tom Herman is stupid enough to make that delivery easy.

The University of Texas football program is a wreck, and in worse shape than any program in the country. If the BMDs want to bring this guy in, I am fine with that as long as he understands that the puppets all have to go and go NOW.

Yep on that first part..I'll say this....Leinhart is contrite and respectful. Reggie is still sore and it shows.

I don't think Meyer would be good here. Great coach, but has the habit of mentally quitting for various reasons mid-job. Did that in 2010 at Florida, came back for a year where he did about zero coaching or recruiting and left the program in shambles, then either had serious health issues his last year at OSU, or was faking it to have an honorable reason to quit.

Great coach, one of the best ones of the modern era. But should not coach a major program again.

Good points, but he didn't leave tOSU in shambles. It's a shame that for me I am basically at a point where I would put up with earned arrogance to field a nationally relevant winning program again. I think he would get and embrace the tradition and turn around the general *** drubbing we get from ou in the Cotton Bowl and the list of Big XII titles. And, I actually think he is less arrogant than Herman.

True, he left OSU well stocked, and they were top 4 last year. But the whole buckled over on the sidelines from headaches issue was never fully explained to me.

Does he have some sort of condition where too much stress and pressure puts him in terrible pain? If so, he should not coach.

If it wasn't a big deal, then was it all just an act to be able to leave OSU without it looking like he was being run off for the media-induced hype about his assistant coach and that train wreck marriage?

I have said the same thing whenever his name has been tossed out around here that his health seems to be of concern.

Has happened twice in the past two jobs. Personally, I don't think he's faking it, I think he's so tightly wound up, that a few years into running a major college program, the stress does cause him terrible heath issues.

Then he goes away from coaching, rests up, and thinks he's ready for another go at it. But that happening twice means it'll happen again too.

Not sure who the correct next coach is, but neither Saban or Meyer should come here.

Duck,

I cannot disagree, and no one dislikes the idea more than I do. That said, I'll take him for a couple of years to "fix things', and correct the **** show of Billy Powers, Charlie Strong, and Tom Herman. We need a quick fix, and he's the only one I see capable of doing it.

Can't believe I just wrote that.

Why would we want Meyer?

Half way thru the first season he's going to get sick and take another "retirement" for health reasons. Dude is soft as charmin and cant take the stress of a head coach gig.

I'm pretty sure his wife has already laid the hammer down on him anyways.

Okay, that settles it. Enough of this Urban Myth talk.

He'd be OK health wise for a few years, but yeah, then the health issues would come back.

Considering the AD is going to lose what, 100 mill plus this year, are they going to spend 10-20 million more to bring in another coach, while continuing to pay He-Man his inflated salary (no buy outs in this state)?

As I stated on another post, really makes you wish Texas hadn't foolishly given him 2 more years on his contract after the 2018 season. Without that, he'd only have 1 more year after this one, and that's small enought to handle. 3 more years at what 5 mill? 7 mill? While the school is laying off people too? I just don't see it.

As with the BB coach, his contract will keep him here long after he should be gone.

Seems to me with the loss of merchandise sales and ticket revenue form the TH alienation of a large contingent of the fan base, they would still do better to get rid of him and bring in UM. Those things would turnaround overnight most likely.

Like most of the mainstays on HF I am hesitatingly, reluctantly prepared to temporarily sell my sole. (And yes, I am
ashamed to admit that I actually said that.) This thing must get turned around and while I am not certain that UM is the only option, I will concede that indeed he might be the best option.

It didn’t have to be this way. Strong was a good man but a terrible choice for HC. The job was way to big for him.

We all misjudged Herman but there were warning signs...about his character. His arrogance, inability to prepare a team and his complete inability to manage a game is almost not believable.

I don’t believe that Meyer is the only answer but he might be the surest bet. I personally would love to lure someone like John Harbaugh to Texas. I also believe that there are probably one or two younger, less visible options that should probably be in the discussion.

What seems almost indisputable is that Herman is not the guy, and that he has alienated Longhorn Nation to a point that the relationship cannot be repaired.
