Maybe all that pink threw our normal vibe off. I honor the cause, Volley for the Cure, but we need the burnt orange for our best Gregory vibe.

OK, that was a pretty rocky match Wednesday night. But here’s the bright side:

1. Nebraska lost too. So the Horns are still in control of their own destiny in terms of getting a share of the Big XII title.

2. The rankings may not be affected all that much. Stanford and Nebraska both have losses to unranked teams. Cal lost earlier to Minnesota and just lost to somewhat-struggling USC. Washington has three losses, although all were to top-10 teams.

3. We’ve got some time to tune up before Nebraska comes to Austin.

4. We have very strong offensive firepower, and a couple nearly unstoppable players in Destinee and Lauren. When we have good ball control, and mix up the offense and can involve the middles, the Horns are awesome!!

So all we gotta do is get our minds right, and get more disciplined so that we can get rid of the errors.

Wednesday’s match was pretty tumultuous, not just because of the Horns choppy play, but also because rude, rotund Restrepo was in town and in fine fettle.

Hey, fat people are supposed to be jolly! Maybe his thighs are chafing, I don’t know. But it was vintage Restrepo.

My favorite was when he called a time-out when his team was down 24-9. That was supremely irritating, as I suppose it was meant to be. Thank you Lauren, for immediately stuffing their first play back for set point.

Looking ahead, two things:

First, a shout out to new recruits Bailey Webster and Sha’dare McNeal. Welcome ladies, we’re glad you’re gonna be Longhorns.

And a little more near-term, let’s all gear up for the Aggies. We need a sell-out crowd! I’m not worried about the win. Since the swimmers will prolly be there, I expect hitting records galore, just like last year. Sorry, Aggy.

Oh yeah, almost forgot – celebrity sighting: Alyson Jennings!

See ya Saturday!
