The Foundation bar to close

I heard that from a friend this morning. Apparently they are going to split the bar in half and sell off one of the halves. I haven't been there in about a year (don't go out as much in general) but it doesn't seem that long ago that they opened. What 3 years ago? Does this mean that the move west continues? I believe the guys who own Foundation also own Union Park.

i'm now on suicide watch.

Not surprised. Went by there one friday night and there was _literally_ 3 people in the entire place.

Big *** bars like that have a short half life. No idea how they split that place into 2 bars very easily w/ that floorplan. HF loves to rip on Foundation, but the owner Jeff is a hell of an owner and a great guy.

I hope that places with shuffleboard tables reap the benefits.

Jeff is a great guy. What sucks is that he opened another bar and all of the crowd from Foundation went to Union Park. So the new bar basically killed the old one.

my hatred of foundation has nothing to do with the bar owner/manager. i hated the dallas-y douchebag feel of the place, complete with velvet rope/lines and the worst of the austin yuppie crowd.

my friends used to love to go there to be and be seen, but it's just not my cup of tea.

I was surprised Foundation stayed the "it" place for as long as it did. Usually once a new place opens, the crowd shifts to the new place, but Foundation was a pretty standard place to end the night for a lot of my friends. I didn't particularly care for it, but Jeff is awesome and I've known him since I used to frequent the Aquarium back in the day.

Hopefully Union Park and any future places he opens will prosper.
