the end of the One and Done?

If Jennings goes to Europe, then he might even wind up with a sane coach.

Edit:

There was one report that Jennings did not get a satisfactory SAT score to enroll in UA.
The Link

Jennings will be competing against men. Young Euro stars always have stats like 4ppg and 8 min. A college player gets more exposure

Maybe a few kids will do it but the money would have to be good. Also, you simply don't get the exposure that you would in college ball. I also don't know what the schedule is like in Europe. Is it more like the NBA with two to three games a week for six months or college with one or maybe two for five months? I would think it would be tough for an 18 year old kid to get used ot the conditioning and really stand out at the same time. If he doesn't, he could be stuck in Europe for a quite a bit loinger than he expects

Financially it makes sense IF he can succeed in Europe.
A Euro coach is not going to feature some 18 year old undisciplined hothead so the coach can lose him the following year.
While Europe may not preach defense the way they do in the NBA (probably to Jennings liking), they also play more disciplined ball than most NCAA team, and he may take a few years to develop overseas.
Euro competition will also make it much harder for a young player to excel. He will be playing among men and former college stars. He will also toil in anonimity from the american viewers eye, especially if he doesnt succeed.

The more I think about it, I simply don't think that kids will do the whole Europe thing (it also helps that Collin Cowherd said it's the next big thing so I know it can't be true). For that one year they get treated like gods and I'm not sure how much money it would take to replace that experience.

When the NBA goes to a 2 year requirement (and they will eventually) - then Europe might get more pull. I just don't see it happening unless they start throwing millions at these kids, which they aren't going to do.

NBA may be a 2 year requirment, but Euro teams would be a 4 year one.
No Euro team wants to just become a farm team for the NBA. They will include huge buyouts.

IMO, there are not going to be that many players going overseas in their interim year because it takes two to tango. You have to find a team that is willing to use one of its U.S. slots on a HS kid. It may not be quite that way anymore, but it used to be that the American imports needed to be good producers. I don't think Jennings is a guarantee to do that.

Richard Roby probably wishes he did at least this after his freshmen year. Dude went from a potential top 15 pick to not even being drafted this past year.

Have to disagree with you. What guarantee is there that these Euro teams are actually going to pay a lot of money for a one year deal. The kid who lgoes to Europe is going to want to have the offense go through him. Dealing with the heightened conditioning requirements due to a grueling schedule and much better competition will also keep that kid from standing out as much as he would in college.

No, I'm saying that only one or two or three players will be able to swing that deal, just like only a few would be drafted.

Actually, more would be drafted, because European teams want their imports to be able to play. The "European Vacation" means, people won't be paid 200,000-plus to sit on the bench.

how many ultra elite college FR are taken anyway? 1 to 5 a year at the most right? These guys can play anywhere and almost all of them would start in Europe. They would not sit on the bench and certainly not eat dorm food.

Ultra elite players like LeBron, Kobe, KG, Dwight Howard, KD etc etc, why not take the big money, skip college, and still get the top 3-5 draft pick? No reason at all for them to play college ball where they are exploited.

There is something to the argument about NCAA giving these kids exposure. I mean Durant, Oden, Rose, Beasley, Love and Mayo are bigger names already than say Kwame Brown, Jonathan Bender or Darius Miles. Dwight Howard would have been higher profile in 05-07, had he played in college. I think having the ESPN exposure is huge.

Exactly. By the end of next year, Oden will be a bigger household name than Dwight Howard - if not already. How many people watch the NCAA tournament? A lot.

Did "dorm food" kill your mom when you were a little kid or something? Good grief, someone has issues with tater tots.
