The Drive (Rasco - ASJenkins)

Texas Jack

Ketch had the editor from Orangebloods on I think is name is Jason Suchomel ????

He had some things to say about the Jenkins and Rasco visits. He said that Jenkins was a 50-50 maybe a little to our side, and it was the distance that is playing major part in his decision. He said that ASJ had a great time in Austin and nothing but the best to say from his visit.

About Rasco he had mentioned that this was just one of several visits that he had taken on his own dime to come down here. He seems to think we are really high on his list and that his family loved the academic side of Texas. His mother plans to move to Houston after he graduates high school no matter where he goes.

I would have thought we had a much better shot with ASJ and less so with Rasco but from the way he was talking it seemed about even with both.

I also heard that report. Sounds like ASJ absolutely loves Texas, but at the end of the day the distance and expense for his parents to see him play in person may be what keeps him in Washington. As much as I would love for ASJ to come to Austin, I have no problem with a kid who wants to play closer to home.

I was pleased to hear the report about Rasco. Sounds like he will take his time and won't commit anytime soon, but he and his parents love Texas.

I can completely appreciate where he's coming from. Let's face it though - being the starting TE at UT will likely give him much more exposure over a 3 or 4 year career versus playing at UW. If he wants to play in the NFL some day, then UT should be the hands down winner between the two schools.

All the same, if he makes the call based on his family, you have to respect that.

I've heard of these people who might put family, God or country ahead of College Football. I just can't understand such bizarre thinking. Takes all kinds, I guess.

plus there's the whole Spinal Tap drummer thing

AS-J seems like a really classy guy. I'll be pissed if he goes to UW, but only at our loss and definitely wouldn't begrudge him. It seems like we were basically a lock for his commitment, which is a shame because now we're in a dog fight again. Hopefully he understands that all those trips will be compensated 50X over once he gets to the NFL

Washington might not be a bad place to make a name for oneself. Offensive minded coach in Sarkisian. Home state hero. Team on the rise. Close to family and friends. Lots of positives there. Not sure who the next heir apparent at QB is for Washington but I bet he will not be a slouch.

Always love to see top talent come to Texas but this is not a No Brainer decision in favor of the Horns.

I don't think the NFL favors Tex players over Wash players. Wash probably has as many TEs in the NFL as Texas. If your talented enough you'll get drafted. Where did Owen Daniels, Dallas Clark, Vernon Davis, Brent Celek and Visanthe Shiancoe go to college (I don't know)? Pretty sure they didn't go to Texas, Florida or USC and they're doing alright...

Off the top of my head Clark was Iowa and Davis was Maryland but I get your point. NFL scouts find you in college but you will been seen more nationally by playing for Texas rather than Washington.

Watched a lot of film on Nick Montana - don't kid yourself into thinking he is going to be anything more than a much lesser version of Jimmy Clausen (probably a much better comparison here - but he was the first to come to mind). Decent accuracy, slightly above average arm, and does not sit well in the pocket. Definitely doesn't (at least at this point) seem to possess Joe Cool's composure and saavy at the position. Having said that, this doesn't mean he won't be a serviceable QB at the DI level, but definitely not someone that I would be going out of my way to play for.

Sarkisian may be able to turn water into wine with this kid, but IMO, the outlook is prognosis negative.
