The Dominican or Playa del Carmen?

I have a free all-inclusive trip to either the Dominican Republic or Playa del Carmen at the Wyndham Resorts (actually the Bahamas too, but it is booked the weekend we want to go).

Wanted to get opinions on either place. And if anyone has stayed at:

Wyndham Dominicus Beach
Wyndham Dominicus Palace
Wyndham Playa Dorada

or

Wyndham Maya
Wyndham Azteca

ive been to both. id take the dominican anyday over playa. you can get more out of the all-inclusive in the dominican because you wont want to step foot out of the resort areas. the resort we stayed at had 8-12 restaurants and tons of events every night, it was sort of like small town within a resort.

imo, the dominican has much nicer beaches than playa and everyone is very, very friendly. playa has a nice little city but i wouldnt want to do all-inclusive there. no feedback on those resorts, havent been to any of them.

going to an all-inclusive resort in playa is akin to visiting austin during a home game and watching the game from a lake travis spa.

I just got back from playa and I couldn't imagine not spending time in the "city".

Dominican Repub. is fascinating. I've never stayed at the resorts you mentioned, but was at a place called Casa de Campo that was well worth it.

Just returned from Cabarete, Dominican Republic and it was great. Met tons of Canadians that were staying at either a Wyndam or Westin all inclusive and they said it was cool. I can't wait to go back to DR. If you want to go to Cabrete DR let me know. I know a great place to rent a house in a gated community on the beach.

Agree with the others that say you don't want to do all-inclusive in Playa.

Also don't take 70 year old conservative parents to Senor Frog's. They may not like the girl with the whistle pouring tequila down your throat or dancing on the tables / bar.

That was not a good fit.

that may be the case, but im on vacation man! who cares? im there to get away from all of that crap.
