First of all let me apologize to the moderators for starting an entirely new thread on this subject, but I think Katy and Robert will understand and will allow me a little forebearance under the circumstances.. A man's livelihood and family are literally on the line and I don't want there to be any confusion or incorrect facts. I speak from authority because I own the building and the assets of John Mueller's BBQ restaurant.
John is open......for the time being. There are serious financial problems due to a variety of reasons. John's barbeque has always been top grade and if anybody has had a bad experience he apologizes and assures you that it is the exception and not the rule.
Part of the recent operational problem has been with Time Warner's inconsistent digital telephone service. John can call out, but customers can't call in. The number is (512) 220-5243. Time Warner has assured John that the problem will be fixed today. (The lack of phone service is what prompted the multiple threads on whether JMBBQ is OPEN or CLOSED . )
The conundrum with barbecue is that if you cook too much, you have to throw it away at the end of the day because it does not keep well overnight. If you don't cook enough, you run out too soon and have to close. When people keep seeing that you're closed, they quit coming by because of the uncertainty. Consumers like certainty..... Customers abhor UN-certainty.
When John first opened 4 years ago , it took 5 months to get approvals from the City of Austin' s various bureaucracy gestapo to reopen a business which was already zoned and operated as a restaurant. The 5 months completely devoured ALL the operating capital before the first brisket was ever sliced. He's been behind the 8 ball ever since.
John asked me to assure all his customers that he is doing the very best he can and hopes to be there for a long time. John has a wife and three kids and basically gets up every morning at 3 am to start the fires and works all day long without much help. If you haven't been there before, give it a try. I know John would appreciate it.
