The Death Spiral

Although two courts had different opinions, this could be the death spiral of unaffordable premiums. More than 4.5 million enrolled through the federal exchanges, and therefore are not eligible for subsidies to pay premiums.

This undoubtedly ends up in the Supreme Court. If they interpret as written, Pelosi really should have read the bill before they passed it.

Obama's law professor says it is the end of ACA. I agree.

The lesson I get from all this is that major legislation that impacts the entire culture to this degree -- it even blankets (so I'm told) about 1/6th, or 18%, of the US economy (if you take into account the insurance industry and ever aspect and facility of the medical/health part of our lives. ....

.... every major legislation of this magnitude and societal impact, MUST be by partnered consensus of the total political spectrum. Do whatever you have to do to get a bi-partisan agreed up law that all can live with, even if segments and percentages on both sides of the aisle are in a tif about it. But there must be common ground.

On this legislation, (a) there was not common ground, and not a single Rep. vote was cast for it, and (b) it was lengthy and not fully read and understood by every member of Congress nor by "the people," and (c) it involved, of all things, the IRS and every personal aspect of individual's lives.

In all, it was the height of naiveness on so many levels, with the glaring political attitude that is a few persons think it's right, then hang the need for consensus and thorough vetting of the law from A to Z.

I hope the lesson is learned. Certainly with regard to immigration legislation. This administration has been quick to implement by legislation or executive order whatever it feels is "right" -- whether anybody or everybody believes it or understand it, because a handful do, including the leader, then just do it.

Wrong. Not a good idea for 320 million diverse people in a complex society almost 18 trillion in public debt.

No one knows what is good for the whole society than anyone can just go fix the Amazon Rain Forest and make it a better forest. Good luck with that. But there are pie-in-the-sky people who honestly believe they can tinker with complex systems and improve it. Or fix it.

I was going to write a story of how the US government approached the Mississippi River and it's flood plains after the civil war, but is too lengthy. Look it up sometimes. Focus on an ex-Civil War officer name of Gen. Andrew Humphreys. By the 1880s, Mark Twain warned that efforts to control the river were futile and couldn't be done by ten thousand river commissions. I think he was right. And an economy and the nation's health system, maybe even it's immigration system is no less complex. Is like trying to adjust the Amazon Rain Forest to improve it or fix it.

Lots of national debate with libs stating that it was a typo in the law. However, here is what the architect of the law stated on camera:

"Gruber responded: “What’s important to remember politically about [Obamacare] is if you’re a state and you don’t set up an exchange, that means your citizens don’t get their tax credits—but your citizens still pay the taxes that support this bill. So you’re essentially saying [to] your citizens you’re going to pay all the taxes to help all the other states in the country. I hope that that’s a blatant enough political reality that states will get their act together and realize there are billions of dollars at stake here in setting up these exchanges. But, you know, once again the politics can get ugly around this.” (Emphasis added.)"

This does not bode well for the future of ACA.

Meh, I get the feeling that this man's comments will be here-today-gone-tomorrow. Someone will get to him, coerce him to stand down, or better yet, he'll come to the conclusion that his statements were taken out of context and he's 'evolved'.

Obamacare's henchmen are going to put this guy in their crosshairs and smoke him out until they get him where they want him.

This is Obama's legacy. No matter how bad it may be, there's no way he's letting it flatline while he's in office.

“We’re almost there,” Belhaven Mayor Adam O’Neal, a Republican, said as he reached northern Virginia ahead of an approaching thunderstorm. “We’re going to make it.”

The mayor and others argue that an increasing number of small, rural hospitals have been shuttered since ObamaCare was signed into law in 2012.

ACA is the source of these hospitals closing. Fortunately, some elected officials see the long term impact of accepting the medicaid expansion.

Given that the President modifies the law without the approval of Congress or the Courts on a fairly reqular basis, what makes you think that he won't issue another Executive Order to ignore that portion of the law? I mean it's not like this President is bound by the Constitution or the Law.

I laughed as I drove in this morning and heard that a poll said that 33% of Americans think Obama should be impeached.

I don't want the leader of the Executive Branch to be impeached but don't want him to feel like he has pure impunity from it if he were, or continues, to act with disregard to the law that he swore to uphold.

HornHuskerDad- I can certainly agree with that statement.

Can one of y'all get Sarah Palin on board with that thinking? Her continued banter to impeach Obama is painting the far right in a ignorant light. She does her supporters no favors with her consistent shallow emotional appeals.

I would say that the use of the IRS to go after political opponents does rise to the level of impeachment. Sounds very similar to the Nixon administration. Dems seemed to think Nixon was worthy of impeachment. I would agree that impeachment is a complete waste of time since it is such a politicized process.

All Republicans need to STFU about impeachment. What constitutes an impeachable offense is ultimately a political question. It is whatever the public thinks it is. I agree with UTChE96 that using the IRS to punish political opponents is an impeachable offense and that the public would agree. However, until that is established (meaning very strong evidence of a direct link from the White House to the IRS ordering the punishment), the issue should not be raised at all.

Of course, Democrats are dying for impeachment proceedings. Link. It helps them raise money, diverts attention away from their failings, and brings the media into lockstep for them. It would be their great savior.

The GOP would get tarred and feathered, and of course, the race card will be played to a degree probably never seen before in American political discourse. They'll portray any impeachment proceeding as a lynching. You'll see political cartoons of John Boehner wearing a Klan hat and hanging Obama from a tree, etc. It'll get nasty and ruin the GOP's chances in the 2014 election. Regardless of the evidence, that's going to happen if impeachment proceedings begin, so the GOP needs evidence of something horrific enough and overwhelming enough to overcome all of that. If they don't have (and they don't), forget about it.

The only "republicans" calling for impeachment are publicity seeking entertainers/publicity seekers like Palin and West.

The democrats are desperate to turn out the vote so they will try anything.
