The Criterion Collection

I enjoy the movies, but hate the price because I never watch the add-on features. Barnes&Noble has a half-price sale this week on all Criterion DVDs. I picked up "Le Cercle Rouge", "Rififi", and "Classe Touts Risques" last night for less than $50. They are all French film noir/gangster movies, and that's been a genre I've enjoyed.

The CC is amazing. A good step in the direction of a film studies degree all in itself.

I try to get them used. Even then the price is usually twice what you would pay for a new Warner's release. Recently I got the original Insomnia for $10 and S/H. Turned out to be a very good film, especially if you like crime dramas and slow burn tension.

CC is the undeniable king of the boutique DVD labels. I pretty much trust the Eureka's Region 2 imprint, Masters of Cinema, and Fantoma, as well, though the MoC titles often overlap with the CC catalogue (and you need an all-region player, which I find indispensable).

Thanks for the PSA. I have been waiting to purchase some Criterion movies on Blu-Ray. The 17.99 sale price is unbelievable (cheaper than most regular Blu-ray movies- The Third Man, Last Emperor, Chungking Express, The Wages of Fear, The 400 Blows, Bottle Rocket, The Last Metro, In the Realm of the Senses, The Man Who Fell to Earth, and El Norte).
