The Blind Side update

A cursory view makes it look like Oher is looking for a shakedown
IF the facts end up proving they gave him his share of movie proceeds putting it into a trust fund for his son and it is proven they did not unduly benefit he is just looking for money anywhere
How sad that for now the family seemed like they wanted to help him
Yes to Ole Miss from which he benefited greatly

Two suspicious things I see are:

  1. The Tuohy's still having a conservatorship. Oher is 37! Why wouldn't that end when Oher went off to college, left college, or say age 25? Seems they're willing to end it now but stilll.
  2. Oher suing now when he has a new book releasing. He claims he thought he was adopted but articles indicate he used the word conservatorship about 10 years ago with his first book.

Guy
Good point. And we don't know if they exercised any control the past 10 years.
We do know he hired his agent on his own and apparently had control of his NFL salary.
According to the author of the book The Blind Side, he and the family only made 250k each from movie. He said Oher did not want thefirst 100k so it was put in a trust.
I think you are right, He is trying to get pub to sell books.
Shame to fo it by maligning a family that it seems tried to sincerely help him.

Touhys say they told Oher after college he could end the conservatorship anytime he wanted.

Touhys sold their company many years ago for ~200MM so they have always had more money than Oher. His contention that they fleeced him on the movie money doesnt wash.

I am betting Oher has pissed away all his NFL money and now he wants Touhys to prop him up financially.

Oher's high school coach who also ended up at Ole Miss said it's sad to see this happening. The family took in a kid who was in a terrible situation and did everything they could to ensure he ended up with a better life for all the right reasons.

If this turns out to be nothing but a stunt to promote his book, I don't think this will work quite the way he wants it to.

Bad look for Oher

"
Since the film’s 2009 release, Kosove and Johnson say that Alcon Entertainment has paid approximately $767,000 to the talent agency that represents the Tuohys and Oher.

“As a result, the notion that the Tuohys were paid millions of dollars by Alcon to the detriment of Michael Oher is false.”

An attorney for the Tuohy family estimated last week that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, their two biological children and Oher have each pocketed about $100,000 apiece from the movie so far. That’s not wildly different from Alcon’s numbers, especially since Kosove and Johnson made a point of noting that the talent agency presumably took commission before passing the bulk of the money to the family.

'Blind Side' producers detail payouts that Michael Oher, Tuohy family received

The Producers of the movie did make donations to Touhy charity
And offered to make a donation to a charity of Oher's choice
He declined

Whatever the issue with money, if they claimed they were basically / all but technically adopting him when they set up the conservatorship, that was a pretty lousy misdirection. Sounds like he thought they were offering to be family, not just guardians, and only more recently realized that was untrue.

The whole thing is just BS. Oher got some money and if it wasnt enough then he shouldnt have allowed his life to be portrayed in the film. All this cry baby stuff now is just sour grapes. If he wasted his money then he deserves to be broke. There are many protections put in place from years ago to help athletes who are not smart to protect themselves. Doesnt always work but he is also stating he was smarter than portrayed in the movie so why all the garbage now? They will eventually punish the white family for helping him, Sandra Bullock for getting paid for acting and so on. Its all just a very sad situation.
