the Big and Nebraska

There was talk about Nebraska wanting to go to the Big 10 as far back as the 70's if not longer. They didn't tuck their tail between their legs and run because they couldn't beat us despite so many being nothing short of desperate to feel we're that important.

IDE,

You are correct. NU wanted to go to the BigTen, but Delany wanted Missouri because of that TV contract allowing him credit for all the TVs in Missouri and Kansas. Missouri didn't want to go, and NU wasn't getting invited.

Now, I think NU regrets going, and Mizzou wished they had when they had the chance.

Honestly I don't get the animosity towards them. They did what what.was in their own best interest
Just like "The Godfather" it was business not personal. We were more than willing to leave the Big 12 for the PAC 12. What's the difference?

they left us like we left the SWC

But that is ok because "We're Texas"

Arkie left first and Texas, along with a few other schools, accepted an invitation to form the Big XII a few years or so later. Saying Texas left the SWC as an outlier is not really the whole story.

HIC,

Texas didn’t leave anything. The Big XII is the Deloss Dodds Conference. His creation. The only things he didn’t get were:

1) TCU instead of Baylor

2) location of first football championship

I agree with Dave.

my point, poorly expressed, was that Nebraska left because it was in their interest, just as Colorado did and Missouri did.
It was in our interest to leave behind our longtime Texas rivals Tcu and Rice and SMU and more recently Houston. Were it not for politics I doubt a Tech or Baylor would have been toted to the revamped Big 8.
I don’t begrudge the Huskers for pursuing what they mistakenly thought was their best interest.

don’t think we need them back

Huisache,

Tech was always part of the Big XII; Baylor never was until the politicians got involved.

Now the plan for Texas to go to the PAC in the late 80s had Tech going to the WAC and aTm going to the SEC, leaving the rest of the SWC to fend for themselves.
