The Big 10 and Recruiting

I think there is more smoke here than fire. But what if?

How would this effect our recruiting? Would it expand our recruiting out of the state of Texas to the Big 10 states? Would there be any effect on Texas high schoolers who are looking at Texas? Would it make Texas an even more exciting choice for Texas high schoolers?

What do ya'll think about this?

What Big 10 state kids wouldnt want to come to Austin??

We'd kill it...but then again, we dont need many outside our state.

John I think it would help the Big 10 schools recruit Texas better than it would help us recruit the Midwest.

As Texas, we shouldn't care about recruiting Ohio and Indiana. If every year we get everyone we wanted from Texas- we stand a strong chance to win a NC.

Ohio would be a pretty solid area to have a pipeline believe it or not. I don't think it would effect our recruiting either way, but it would still be interesting. We would still be able to cherry pick Texas, and outside of that what more do we really need to do?

It's a two way street. You could keep OSU and Michigan out of your backyard by making them defend their own backyard.

Mack's philosophy is to recruit Texas kids first he feels he can win with. There are just too many of them in the State of Texas, unlike most states. The only highly rated OOS players he goes afer are those who really show a desire to come to Texas due to connections or other reasons.

If he would just go after national kids, he would lose more battles (like the other schools do) and wouldn't get the players in Texas he wants.

there's more speed here in texas than there is in OH, MI, IN, IL, etc. Other than a few players each year, i don't think we would recruit that hard in big 10 country.

It's awesome we got Jordan Hicks- but that doesn't happen every year. And of course if a 5* from Indiana likes us- let's get em! But- point is- if we stay home and master Texas every year we can win NCs. Maintain Focusness.

It has helped Oklahoma State and Missouri and Kansas and Nebraska by playing us every year. It would help the Big 10 schools also so it doesn't matter who you play out of state it does help them. Fortunately we usually get the ones we want. Mr. Hicks was from out of state but he did have some ties as Coach Brown says with Texas. Several of our OOS players have had ties with Texas so it isn't like we went there and got too many of them.
Oklahoma benefits with the Dallas Cotton Bowl game but it works both ways in that we also get some exposure to Dallas/Fort Worth area recruits which has many talented players.

Austin would be hard to resist for kids in cold boring places, especially once ball would bring you to mama's neck of the woods 4-5 times a season. We are not some second tier school that has lucked into a way to get some players based on a crafty current conference alignment. We are TEXAS. Our recruiting is great, and should it take a downturn someday, it won't be because we play in the Televen.

Mack spent the last 12 years building up a trust and connection with Texans, Texas High School football and the University of Texas. He has made it clear that he puts Texas first and all of his decisions are made with our people in the forefront of his thoughts.

A move to the Big 10 is a complete contradiction in everything he has ever said or done for this University and state.

Moving to the Big 10 would create and unimaginable amount of ill will towards this University from the people of this state. It would have a crippling affect on recruiting.

I think it would help the Big 10 schools more than it would help us. I'm not worried about recruiting for UT, though. Being able to take players from Ohio and Pennsylvania here and there would be nice. Probably overall a big win for the other Big 10 schools and a push for Texas.

I think the big losers would be the rest of the Big 12 - every single one of those teams depends on getting Texas guys to be any good. Suddenly they'd be competing with not only Texas, but the Big 10. It would be a bad day for Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, etc.
