I've made several things out of this book and think it's pretty good. From reading this board, I can tell that I am an amateur so wanted some opinions on it and other good barbecue cookbooks.

Robb Walsh's book is the one I use the most:

I've also found some awesome pork recipes and "other" types of BBQ sauces (Memphis, Carolina, etc.) in this book:

Both are excellent resources...one pure Texas BBQ and the Willingham book a good resource for other sauces, sides, pork, etc.

The Barbecue Bible as well as most everything from Raichlen is more about grilling than it is barbecue. He refers to smoking food as indirect grilling and provides all kinds of instructions about how to smoke meat on a gas grill as I suppose they all do it in Martha's Vineyard. Raichlen is a master at grilling, but if you want to learn about what most in Texas consider BBQ I can't think of better book to get you started than the Walsh book referenced above and I have considerable collection to choose from.

12thStud pretty much wrote exactly what I was going to type up. Raichlen's books are all excellent. Walsh's book is required for any Texan though. It's pretty cheap on Amazon, too.

I like the Barbeque Bible. As noted, it is mostly a grill book and not a barbeque book. I've never tried a recipe that didn't work well. The recipes are mostly adapted but that's not a problem...it's a good introduction to grilled food around the world. If I like a recipe and want to go more authentic, I only need to hit the internet for about 20 minutes.
