The Bama game will be on ESPN…

…and as of right now Spectrum in Austin can’t broadcast any ESPN stations because they can’t come to terms with Disney (so no LHN either). I have a buddy in NC who couldn’t watch the Rice game yesterday on DirecTV Streaming because of contract negotiations with his local Fox affiliate. And I can’t get the local NBC affiliate on my DirecTV Streaming for the same reason. It’s crazy town right now.

We are giving Spectrum until Wednesday to get their fecal matter together. I started the 21 day trial of YouTube TV today (so I can watch LSU tonight) and will start a try with DirectStream on Tuesday.

I never had any problems with DirecTV Stream. I was an early adopter (back when it was NOW and not Stream) and was paying $29 for 140 channels back in late 2017. It was great. Then they kept jacking up the rate for existing AT&T people like me and it's $110 for the same exact product now. And it had the LHN which was a big deal for me. Not so much any longer.

Now I'm just with Hulu and it's fine. It's only gone "out" once since we started subscribing. Has the NFL Network, and you can bundle the cheaper ESPN+ with it.

I’m on Spectrum—no ESPN. Ironically, I pay for ESPN +, but streaming ESPN+ will not give me ESPN. So, I can watch US Open random courts 14, 26 and 28, but can’t see the main feeds.

Absolutely a big mess!
We just swithed from ATT Uverse because of continued price increases only. With Direct TV we lose alot of games, shows etc that we have always enjoyed. Direct TV Stream is less expensive and I get nearly all I want except a few....no ABC and CBS but do get NBC...Direct, while less $$$ also has it's drawbacks for those of us that still want more.

*Get an antenna for live TV but it too has its drawbacks....no recording capability!!

We do have access to Vexus TV and Internet so I may check it out for more cable possibilities including reviews of its service.

I switched to YouTube TV a few years ago. I get all the sports channels except LHN but that doesn't matter.

I've signed up with Vidgo. They include LHN. They don't have the best DVR, 20 hours. But they're slightly less than others. Spectrum has one month to figure this out or I'm gone for good. This is the second time this has happened.

Finally trying out YouTube TV. Think it might lead me to cutting the Spectrum cord. Watching FSU/LSU now on it….
We are watching it on YouTube also. The only issue I have is YouTube does't have the regional sports channels. Fubo does, but a little more expensive.

As I reach peak frustration from the current cable/streaming/channel wars, I have to remind myself that 30 years ago it was rare to even see Longhorn football games on TV. We were utterly dependent on the major networks back then. It’s just weird to me now when it becomes challenging to find what is arguably the most prominent game of the week.

I have an externally mounted HD antenna and a older Tablo over the air DVR. I connected a cheap 2TB USB hard drive to it, and it can record for days. If you get a good antenna, it's pretty crazy to see all the channels and content out there. Also, you can stream to multiple devices inside your home at the same time. It's not a silver bullet, but it works well, and you only have to pay the upfront equipment costs and maybe a one-time fee for the guide. It's pretty cheap comparatively.

Yep. Sometimes I switch the input over to the antenna and surprised at how many channels you can get for free. And can record on my DVR like old times. Good deal for someone who doesn't watch sports.

We switched from directv to YouTube tv, then to fubo. Couldn't get bally sports (rangers, astros) on YouTube. Like fubo so far, but getting used to the remote / controls was and is frustrating

Locally, the fox and NBC local stations have been blocked off directv. Nexstar Inc has declared jihad on cable companies

You can dvr ‘over the air’ shows? I never knew - thought it was illegal and therefore no dvr’s could do it.

I can dvr antenna content with my fire tv recast and can then play it back on any of my many fire stick tvs. Had it for about 5 years since we cut the cable and it works well. I think amazon discontinued it, tho.

So you have a fire stick for each tv? That makes sense because I thought one couldn’t record off the air tv.

FWIW I have DirecTV satellite through AT&T and didn’t have any issues with the Rice game yesterday and so far as I can tell I’ll be getting ESPN for the Bama game.* I’m planning to go with YouTube TV in 2024 and get rid of the satellite dish once and for all.

*at least, I haven’t been getting ominous messages on screen saying that certain programming won’t be available because [network] isn’t being reasonable, blah blah blah

Looking back to my jr high and high school days back in the 70s, I think the only times I saw the Longhorns play was on Thanksgiving and then the occasional Texas-OU game. And a bowl game or two.

Yes, I do. They are pretty cheap, I get em for $25 when on sale on Amazon. So I have lots of Fire Sticks but only 1 Recast box which is hooked up to my over-the-air antenna.

Not necessarily. Many modern TV's have built in apps that allow for this. For instance, I have the Tablo app on two of my TV's. I have an Amazon Fire TV and a Roku on the other two (which deliver the Tablo app on those two TV's). For laptops, phones, and tablets, you simply have to download the app.

There are lots of ways to record over the air TV and watch it live or save it for later. It just depends on how you want to watch and what you current set-up is.
