The Bakken Oil Formation

I'm doing due dilligence work on an acquisition that involves leases that tap into the Bakken discovery play. I've heard that in North Dakota, it could contain up to 3.5Bbls (Billion barrels) or recoverable oil.

I am looking to invest. Everything i read looks good, if the red tape is not involved. If you take a look at the 1980 Texas and the Permian Basin was out producing Saudi Arabia. This may the find that brings a new Boom effect?

What I have read leads me to believe it is indeed real. Hope the gov and environmental red tape doesn't keep 'em from drilling - 3.5 B barrels is a lot of recoverable crude oil.

What would be the average production per day on a field like that? Let's say it's 500,000 day. That's roughly a 20 year life span for that field. Is that a reasonable estimate? What is the overall impact for US supplies? Minimal or significant?

Petrobras in Brazil recently found a new offshore field that they claim holds 33 billion barrels of recoverable oil.

The middle zone - where my most recent recovery data comes from- is on the western margin of the play and is primarily a silty, dolomitic reservoir that fines downward and is sandwiched between the upper and lower shales.

The main pay zone ranges from 8-15 ft with porosity about 8-12% and water saturation that averages about 25%. Measured permeability values in the range of 0.005 to 0.5 md. There is some natural fracturing although it acts to enhance permeability rather than acting as a classic dual porosity system.

What this means is that the editors of business week - or whomever it was that stuck the match - and Byron Dorgan must innovate entirely new fields in both petrophysics and geology to confirm the hyped estimate of near total recovery from a very tight unconventional endowment. She is going to put out, but not like that old ***** Arab D.

Drilling is ongoing. Has been since the 1960s I believe. I have a few work overs up there on contract. Funds are open. I suggest you come up with the cash to get accredited or listen in on EOG and Marathon calls. Those are the heavyweight majors that own the sweet spots and are best positioned for faster yields and payouts.
