The Astros Should Sell the Farm...

...to sign Manny in the off-season. Yes, he is an idiot, but can you imagine what his numbers would be with the Crawford Boxes? He is one of the top pure hitters in the game and put him with Berkman, Lee, Tejada & pence and we would really have an offense.

I would much rather give him 20+ million/per than CC Sabathia or another pitcher that can easily break down on you.

I'm really not sure that I agree this year's pitching market is great. The only guys that really stand our are CC, Dempster, and Lowe. CC is going to bank, Lowe is getting older and will probably want a 3-4 year deal, Dempster would be an ideal pick-up but I hear he is inclined to stay in Chicago. Carl Pavano could be a good fit for an NL club. He has really struggled in the AL east, but could do well back in the national league.

Beckett and Sheets are living off of name. Certainly they have great stats, but you can almost guarantee both of them will be looking in the neighborhood of 15 mil a year. Way too much money for pitchers who have a problem consistently throwing 200 innings a season.

We have ZERO chance at CC...he is going to NY or Boston, period. Furthermore, no pitcher is worth $20+ million per.

If it means we do not sign any starting pitching then we shouldn't do it, but if we are going to sign a $8 million a year pitcher then go for Manny.

Where on earth would you play him? An outfield of Lee, Ramirez and Pence might be one of the worst fielding teams ever.

I'm going to be really surprised if the astros don't sign Sheets. This just seems like a move that has Astros written all over it.

Just a hunch.

The last draft has some promise. Jordan Lyles looked very good in Greeneville. He's the high schooler they took wither their 1st round supplemental pick.

chiding Beckett for always being injured and recommending signing Pavano? really?

I'm a huge Manny fan, but I certainly don't want to see him in H-town. we already have enough fat and slow players. plus, with Lee on the squad there's nowhere to put him in the field.

as stated, starting pitching has to be the top priority for the stros. I'd love to see them keep Wolf and get another mid to back of the rotation arm. I just don't see us spending the $$$ on CC.

an upgrade in the lineup would be nice as well. gotta think Wiggy won't swing the bat quite as well next year. that said, if you get expected production from fat elvis, fat carlos, pence & miggy, it's not that bad of an offense. especially if matsui can stay healthy and Bourne can improve incrementally.

I will say this...Wade a terrific job shoring up the bully during the year. not sure if hawkins is coming back, but he sure made Wade look like a mad genius.
