THE 2008 SEASON

could be a bell weather season for us... we are kinda like Bitney spears right now... meteroic rise, young and sassy... red plastic cat suit... but then we had a couple of kids (rose bowls) we thought we were gonna roll forever, banging back-up dancers, burning down marlboro reds at half time... But time took its toll... a couple of disppointing turns and now we staring the cotton Bowl in the face again, wondering why we can't beat OU...

The conference seems to have shifted a bit with two new teams form the north actually acting like they want to play football... A couple of new gals to the mix... Mangino is like Lohan, stealing our thunder and BCS bearths... He is crazy and so is Lohan... She is freckly and eats things with freckles, like cows and pinto horses...

...and business as usual in the south with OU and Texas being the odds on favorites to win the division... that said, I also think the horns have more question marks as a team in 2008 than they have had in a while.

so here my predictions:

FLORIDA ATLANTIC - W
at UTEP - W
ARKANSAS - ??
RICE - W
at Colorado - ?
vs. Oklahoma - L
MISSOURI - W
OKLAHOMA STATE - W
at Texas Tech - ?
BAYLOR - W
at Kansas - L, close.
TEXAS A&M - W, close.

Just trying to draw some pop-culture parallels...

You know, because it is like another seven months before football gets here and I feel like it may never come back to me... never, ever, and if it doesn't come back, I'll be fine enough through basketball season but then holy pancake batter, I might just lose it... If I have to watch suprised by design one more time with my wife or I have to paint one more room... dear sweet baby jesus...

If this doesn't let up I am gonna have to learn to play golf or serve the poor!!!

So yeah, what do you think about next season, lots of changes to the line-up, interesting new quirks from the teams in the north our untested back-field...

whaddaya think about those things..?

I think OU should be a ?.

I think Missouri will be a tougher game than Kansas will. I also had a goal to study hard and graduate with an engineering degree at UT but that didn't pan out exactly that way so who knows.

Muschamp is gonna have this defense taking people's heads off. I think we are gonna surprise a lot of people. The o-line shouldn't be as big of a question mark with all the starters having seen significant action. The big question marks will be the defensive backs where we are extremely talented, athletic, fast, just no experience beyond beasley/palmer AND DT's. After Miller there's nothing really. I think we will develop some depth however, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the frosh DT we just signed end up playing significant minutes. I'd think Alexander and Ellis will finally step up and show what they can do.

We can win the big 12 this year if we can just develop some depth at DT. I believe in our secondary. I think Akina will have them ready to go, especially after the embarrassment that was the last 2 seasons versus the pass, plus Muschamp has said he wants to be a multiple defense and he's shown both at LSU and Auburn he brings multiple sets and disguises coverages/blitzes very well. We'll be ready for Kansas, Mizzou, Tech, and especially OU and A&M.

One of the worst posts of the year. Projecting us with up to 5 losses is almost as ridiculous as your pop culture references.

inghrn, i agree. We will be ready for every opponent this year. The attitued just sounds different/better. People are getting more physical in practice and and are taking more responisbility. It is great to read this stuff. I think the DBs will be ready by the time season starts. I the the #2 DT is the only ?mark on D. I think Big Ben Alexender will be our other starter.
Developing RB and depth with WR are the only ?marks on O. We have talent at RB and we have are 2 starters at WR but we need to establish depth there. I think Irby has shown he will be very good. The OL will destroy. We should be makeing a run at more than the conf title.

Count me as among those who expect our team to be ready and intense for our games this year. I think the chemistry changes from adding MA and WM will keep running teams from throwing for 8 million yards and will keep midmajors from pushing us to the final gun.

Our talent is flat out superior to most of the teams we face. When they are prepared and fighting, I love our guys' chances. I expect preparation and fight. OU has the horses, too. Tech in Lubbock is always dicey. Other than that, I don't see our losing in the regular season.

FLORIDA ATLANTIC - W
at UTEP - W
ARKANSAS - W
RICE - W
at Colorado - W
vs. Oklahoma - ?
MISSOURI - W
OKLAHOMA STATE - W
at Texas Tech - ?
BAYLOR - W
at Kansas - W
TEXAS A&M - W

10-2 to 12-0; likely 11-1 ( + winning CCG if in it)
Bowl: Holiday, Gator, Cotton, Fiesta, BCSAL, BCSNCG all plausible but Cotton, Fiesta, or BCSAL my prediction.

My 2 cents

FLORIDA ATLANTIC - Ryan sechrest (not enough talent to compete)
at UTEP - Sissy Spacek
ARKANSAS - Jamie Lynn Speers
RICE - Lucy Liu
at Colorado - Gary Bussey
vs. Oklahoma - Wes Studi or Tobi Keith
MISSOURI - Kathy Bates
OKLAHOMA STATE - Daniel Craig (turns 40 this week).
at Texas Tech = Johnny Depp or Peter Saaaarsghaaaard...
BAYLOR = Amy Winehouse
at Kansas - Kirstie Alley (getting bigger, coach and program)
TEXAS A&M - Rosie O'Donnell (most annoying person ever)

Too much...?

Thanks kqp. I think your breakdown makes a little more sense than Mr. Pop Culture's. Tech in Lubbock is always tough, but I have faith that Muschamp will have an answer to their offense...And that answer will not be 10-15 yard cushions. Graham Harrell will be running for his life.

Here's what I just came up with using suspect and rather random methods of generating results:

W 48-7 FLORIDA ATLANTIC
W 31-6 at UTEP
W 20-10 ARKANSAS
W 62-25 RICE
W 41-14 at Colorado
W 32-26 vs. Oklahoma
L 25-37 MISSOURI
W 42-17 OKLAHOMA STATE
L 40-41 at Texas Tech
W 56-14 BAYLOR
W 17-6 at Kansas
W 35-20 TEXAS A&M
