That was the poorest coached game I've seen yet

And there have been plenty. Nevermind that it was against Kansas. I saw a coach that had defeat written all over his face.

I saw a coach that was not trying to turn this game around. He wasn't substituting players that needed taken out. He left players on the bench that are capable of coming in and finding a spark. He wasn't up telling players what to do - only yelling after them after they screwed up.

I saw a coach who wouldn't call timeouts to try and stem momentum.

I saw a coach who ran the weave offense outside the 3-point arc and had no semblance of an offense.

I saw a coach who had a team endure a shot clock violation not just 2 times in a game but on 2 successive trips down the court.

I saw a coach whose team seem afraid to attempt a 3-point shot even if they were wide open.

I saw a coach who stuck with a point guard who had played only one game this year and was easily the worst player on the court. And, I saw a coach leave another point guard on the bench who had given sweat and effort all year long but reward with almost no playing time in a losing effort.

I saw a coach leave a Center in the game who couldn't hit a free throw if it hit him first.

I saw a coach leave ?the leading scorer on the team? McClellan on the bench and not play him unitl the game was out of reach.

And lastly I saw a coach who yukked it up with the opposing coach after his team had been totaly destroyed and embarrassed on national television.

I saw a coach that does not deserve another game, let alone another season to be priviledged to be a Head Coach at the University of Texas.

Hook'em!!!

The knock on Barnes has always been his offensive shortcomings. I guess this is what happens when you combine that deficiency with a team full of projects that keep making the same mistakes, has no real leadership, can't create shots and couldn't make them if they did.

I realize we're a volleyball school now, but I expect better.

Remedies might be....

build an Erwin Center with design opposite the better basketball venues

cater to Foundation seating in the main arena, with extra-wide aisles for back'n'forth passage; season tickets in the arena with chair back seats

don't cater to packed student seating surrounding the main arena, clear down to the floor level

seat 17,000 all the way to the rafters, rather than 10,000 with all good seats and a hallmark in the nation for college basketball

don't recruit for junior-senior-laden teams... just go for 1-and-done and 2-and-done

work a lot on defense that is really hard to coach at this level

create practice and the program around super intense methods and style of play that taxes 18 to 20 year olds trying to also get through school

don't aim at any fun style of the game and do encourage players to come and leave as early as possible, even if you have to go to Canada and all over the country to dig them up

don't bother recruiting DFW and the Houston area

Guess that's about it.

Oh, wait. It's already being done.

I can't imagine anyone watching this team and thinking that it needs to be shooting more threes. I don't know what goes on in practice, but more and more I really question how Barnes defines a "good shooter". Is it just that they look comfortable shooting the ball and have good form? We have a lot of guys that can do that, and they hit about 20-25 percent of the ones they shoot.

It seems to me like you should tell a kid "ok - go grab a ball and shoot 50 treys for me. When you can hit 30 of them, I'll give you the green light to shoot them in games. My guess is we don't have a player on the team that can do that right now.

The program needs a complete makeover. New coaching staff and program identity. It is amazing what a good coach can do. Watching what Lon Kruger at ou in his 2nd season is a perfect example. A good start would be to hire Buzz Williams.

Simply put, I agree with Horn69. That was a wretched effort all the way around, but especially from the coaching staff.

Nice work Horns 69.

I could not believe this was the same team that stayed within five of Kansas last time.

I want to be a Barnes supporter but he ( Barnes ) is not helping.

Just awful performance and so embarrassing. I don't have to tell you what sports media is saying here in Tulsa. They can't believe it's this bad.

I get the impression Barnes is coaching to teach at this point rather than to win. He knows the season is a lost cause and is building for the future. Heck, it's the youngest NCAA team in the country. What do you expect?

I noticed that Ridley didn't play against K-State, but then I've hardly noticed him in the games that he has played.

Edit : I read in a game recap that he missed the game due to an eye injury.

Both teams are painful to watch. RB did watch some film and pressed. OUr best guards ate still in HS and next year when Osby is gone we are fukked.
