That is why they are respected

SA shows every year why they are champions. They seem to counted out every year and they still win. I am a Rockets season ticket holder and I still have TONS of respect for SA. TD is the most underrated Top 10 player in NBA history.

Although the Lakers will be favored and have the home court, you can never count out SA. Wow.

Dunan is adequately respected. The one who isn't is Pop.

IF he did what he is doing on the East Coast or in LA, they would have 8 books written about him already. All he does is win.

Go Spurs Go!

Duncan = 11 All defensive team selections (1st or 2nd team). He shares the record with Kareem for most ever.
Malone = 4 selections ( 87/88, 96/97, 97/98, 98/99).

Duncan is the better all around player out of him and Malone. He is solid defensively, excellent fundamentals, with the usage of his feet, body control as well as his passing and presense of where his teammates are on the floor.

Malone was the more prolific scorer as defenders always had trouble with the Stockton/Malone pick & roll. Malone always got open looks or had layups off the Stockton feeds. He even tore up the Chicago dynasty off the simple play, but still lost (because Chicago was way better). Duncan simply gets the ball in the low post and creates. He also has a better supporting cast with Ginobili and Parker and doesn't need to score as much as Malone did. He also kicks the ball out, out of his low post against doubles, something Malone did not see as much of, out to the outside shooters and/or cutters.

Malone was great, yes ... but he also had a great system to work in and one of the greatest point guards in history as well.

Duncan creates and gets points, even after constantly fighting double and triple teams, and that's a huge reason why he should be considered the best power forward. He creates plays for himself out of them while extremely fundamentally sound, and his shooters feed off those double teams, not to mention his defensive presense.

And we're talking about power forwards, not centers like Kareem and Wilt. Granted, they were the best at their position but TD sure has a strong argument at PF.

Hudson,
I agree with that, but ElCee said he could become the greatest "Big", which would include the centers. In my mind he is the greatest PF, hands down.

ESPN agrees Duncan greatest PF

greatest PF

I don't really buy the "Spurs get no respect". Course they get respect. They are not favored because the Lakers are very good, have a slightly better record, and have home court. Most people expect this series to be close and go 6 or 7.

the best "big" would definitely be a harder case for Timmy. You start introducing players like Wilt, Frazier, Russell, Hakeem, etc etc into that argument and it ends up being hard to rank any of em against each other. PF is a much easier call tho

To the poster who said comparing Tim to Wilt is like comparing him to Duncan...

1. Jordan > Wilt

2. If Duncan, theoretically, wins 2-4 more titles, a couple finals MVPs, continues to be an allstar/all-NBA, all-defensive team, etc... is it really that wacky to mention him in the same breath as Jordan? Sure he wasn't as exciting or revolutionary, but Duncan just wins. Period. Sound like someone else being mentioned?

Well, I don't think Kobe is even in the conversation either, but TD will never catch Jordan even if he wins two or three more titles. Jordan changed the game forever and made it global. He is the reason for the salaries of today and why the NBA was bigger than football during his run. That all counts.

I do think TD is ahead of Kobe though, easily. I really think TD is Top 10 all-time regardless of position.

Those of y'all comparing stats between Malone and Duncan are sure being selective.

Malone scored 36,928 points (25 / game). This was second best only behind Kareem. His career shooting percentage was a very impressive 52%. He won two NBA MVPs in 97 and 99. Duncan averages 22 / game on 51% shooting. He won two MVPs in 02 and 03.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here... but I think some of y'all forget how good Malone was.
