Thanksgiving Day game

This morning on the radio, Chip Brown suggested that Texas may be working towards scheduling a home game each Thanksgiving, similar to what the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions do in the NFL. The opponent would vary each year, but would probably be limited to the Texas teams to make travel a little easier on a short week.

What do you guys think about this idea?

I think this is an OUTSTANDING idea.

It looks good on many fronts.

1. Stabilizes the Thanksgiving week game to that day every year.

2. The rotation still emphasizes Texas as the big dog.

3. It still allows aggy to be on the schedule, oh, about every 10 years or so to SHUT THEM THE F*&K UP about "cancelling the series" or "playing them anytime, anywhere."

4. Since Texas will host, simplifies travel, family visit plans; no back-and-forth between Austin and Gomerville every other year.

5. Though the thought is apparently to host other Texas schools, it opens up the enticement to the big fish to play on a Thanksgiving Day game that is schduled each year, think Domers, USC, Bama, Michigan, etc.

Me likey.

When I first read that post, I thought it said Texas would be playing the Dallas Cowboys or the Detroit Lions every year on Thanksgiving. That had me worried.

I think this is actually a good idea. I wouldn't mind seeing us play and rotate back 7 forth btw texas tech 7 baylor on Turkey Day games.

Hook'em!!!

Tech, TCU, Baylor, Rice, UNT, Houston, SMU, UTEP on a rotating basis. If we did something like that it would be hilarious as to the Aggie reaction.

I hate the idea. If it is not a big national-level game move it away from T-day. I don't want to miss every Thanksgiving day with my family to play the likes of Baylor, Tech, etc.

Now, alternate with ND and I'm in.

Yeah, it would really be a burr under aggy's saddle. They'd barely be able to eat their shee...I mean turkey.

I'd rather keep it with one opponent preferably TCU, home and home rather rotate and always play in Austin every year.

If the rotation deal is what they want to do limit the rotation to Texas schools in the B12 conference only! No SMU, Rice, UH, and NEVER Aggy. They wanted out from under our shadow and don't want to be controlled by us, and besides we won the last game of the series as conference opponents and that's how it should be left.

Carve it into stone: 76-37-5 Now that's a real tradition!!

I said it about all the Texas schools, especially the ones not in the Big XII for a reason. Included everyone but Aggie. It would be fun to watch their reaction. I like the game in the state of Texas, pretty much anywhere, I can have Thanksgiving Dinner and top it off with the Longhorn game, most places are within a 4 hour drive and I don't have to hang with any relatives.

Galloopin Goose, Id like to see that carved stone of yours placed right in the middle of "dead dog" Cemetery.

Rice, UNT, Houston, SMU, and UTEP would not please the network broadcasting the game, given the small national fan bases for these teams. Who would watch, apart from UT fans and the fans of these universities?

I vote for conference TX teams only and on Friday. My Thanksgivings are crazy hectic right now with the Turkey Day game. Wouldn't mind spreading the chaos.

perhaps we could even mix in a little bit of Sam houston State, Texas State, 7 Stephen F. Austin. LOL.

Regardless, it's going to be very interesting going forward.

I think we lose the T day spot if we allow the game to become more irrelevant than it has in recent years.

I still like rotating home and home for selfish reasons. Every other year I like to eat Turkey and enjoy the game at home with the family'. The rotation also gets me pumped on Home game years.

Great news -- NBC's new NFL contract gives them the Thanksgiving night NFL game. I'm not sure what year it starts, but once it does, it should keep us permanently away from that night.

Notre Dame every Tday in the Alamo Dome in Ol San Antone.
I am sure the Yankees would love to escape the winter assland in which they reside to spend a weekend on the river every year and game is short drive from Austin. Good recruiting game for ND as well.
