Thank You Mark Teixiera!

I'll admit I was a little bitter when Mark Teixeira, late of the New York Yankees, sent signals he had no interest in spending his career as a Texas Ranger, forcing a trade.

The Rangers traded the Slugger to Atlanta for some terrific prospects. Now Neftali Feliz, Matt (not Ben) Harrison and Elvis Andrus, are two fifths of the starting rotation and an outstanding defensive shortstop with a good bat. The Rangers also received a couple of guys not with the club anymore.

The Rangers wouldn't have sniffed a World Series had he stayed, a big bat, but also a big bat with $20+ million contract that would have hamstrung the Rangers in other deals. Together, Tex and former Ranger Alex Rodriguez eat up more than 1/4 of the Yankees highest in baseball team salary.http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/baseball/mlb/Yankees/salaries/2012.

(Sorry for the sloppiness. Ben Harrison was a Rangers outfield prospect.)

I think he means Matt Harrison.

Otherwise, a spot-on post. I can't thank Teixeira enough.

It's kind of surprising that the "anti-Moneyball" teams like the Yankees and Red Sox don't pick up the phone and make the same kinds of deals to secure guys at low rates who end up contributing so much. Like Carl Crawford... for his salary, they probably could have signed a platoon of outfielders who could all bat .270 with 65 RBIs, or maybe even better. And another reliever. And another catcher. Then you have the depth to compete.
