I also want to try Thai in Houston but haven't really been anywhere. I have heard good things about Morningside Thai, on Morningside right off Holcombe. Anybody been there?
"Telephone Thai". I forget the real name, but it is something like Kwanman. It is east of downtown on Telephone road. Nothing fancy or cheap but the food is outstanding.
I've been pretty much every Thai Restaurant in Houston. Here is my top 3:
1. Vieng Thai on Long Point
2. Fu Lu Su on Cartwright in Mo City
3. Kanomwan on Telephone
I'll also say most Thai places in Houston are pretty good. The better ones don't try to Americanize the food too much, or in the case of a couple in Chinatown, Chinatize it too much.
We hit Thai Restaurant on Westheimer at Bering for lunch pretty regularly. It's cheap, decent and consistent.
I've never been to Kanomwan but I've heard great things about it. An apparently the owner is similar to the soup nazi, so know you're order and no substitutions.
bularry -- Yes, its between 1092 and Texas Ave., on the same side of the street as what was the golf course. Its in an old run down strip mall (I know that doesn't really narrow it down). One weekend per month they have a big party with kareoke which is really fun, and I don't even like kareoke. They cook a bunch of food and just sort of start passing it out.
Regarding Kanomwan, the guy isn't that bad. Once you're a regular, he's actually somewhat nice.
Thai Restaurant has the best fried ice cream in the world. Its amazing, although not very Thai.
Fu Lu Su is next to a Vet for landmark references...it also has the big ol grade C health inspection sticker slapped on the front window.
But Mack you're another person I've now heard giving this place a good review...maybe I need to try it, regardless of what Mo City health inspectors think of it.
