Some additional Lady Raider tidbits:
Tech Junior guard Christine Hyde had arthroscopic surgery on her left knee last Friday and is likely out for the rest of the season.

Soph. F Kelsi Baker did not play in the KSU game due to an ankle injury. Status for Wed. is unknown at this time.

Against KSU, Shauntal Nobles (F) had a big day with 16 pt (6-8 FGs) and 8 rebs in a starting role. Kierra Mallard (F)came off the bench and had a strong game: 15 pt (7-15 FGs) and 6 rebs. PG Monique Smalls was even better, 7-8 FGs for 15 pts, 6 rebs, 4 assists and 6 steals.

Tech used a seven player rotation with four starters playing over 30 minutes. Smalls played 37 and Nobles and Mallard went 20 and 24 minutes with both fouling out. .

Horns and Lady Raiders split their two games this season with each winning at home. Tech won in Lubbock, 75-71. Horns won in Austin 63-54. On a neutral site, I will take Texas. Texas is as healthy as they have since the start of conference while Tech is missing one, maybe two players in Hyde (surgery) and Baker (ankle). Otherwise, there is little to separate the two. Cokie seems to be playing better lately coming in off the bench. Ronisha has been providing addition depth in the front and back court.

It should be a great game to finish off the first day.

Oddly, this season Tech seems to be a tougher match-up for Texas than aggy. It seems most of the Tech roster is willing to take the 3 pt shot, even if they don’t hit a high percentage. When those shots do fall anything can happen. Tech is also very physical inside. Texas will need to harass the Tech guards and keep them from getting good looks on the perimeter, and rely on the posts to protect the paint. That can be problematic since posts Mallard and Barncastle will both also step outside and shoot facing the basket. Mallard actually has the best 3 pt percentage on the team. This is very different from aggy who likes to have guards go to the hole and really doesn’t like the three. (After they beat the hell out of Tech they will see a still completely different team in Baylor with a dominant scorer inside.)

But, this game will be more about Texas than TT. If Texas does the things they have shown they can do well this is a game they will win. Tech is good enough to surprise if Texas doesn’t bring their best game. Hopefully there will be no emotional letdown after the run to close the season and the big win over aggy. Texas needs to maintain their focus and not let the opportunity they have worked so hard for slip away. This will be a game in which the energy they bring to court at the opening tip will tell a lot about how things are going to go.

This is a take care of business game. The way to get that done is to not be satisfied. They need to not even be satisfied by the idea of winning. They need to be thinking in terms of winning by 20 or more. They need to come out with an attack mentality from the start and make Tech just want the game to be over. The three seniors appear to be dialed in and determined to make the most of their last opportunity at Texas. I don’t think they want to lose their last game to Tech any more than to aggy. Chassidy has been playing better than ever and finding ways to make positive things happen even when she is not scoring. Cokie seems to be a little better and a little stronger every game. Nneka appears to be becoming comfortable with the speed of the game and letting her athleticism take over. Chelsea is providing quality minutes in every phase of the game while allowing all of the other guards to catch a break. Things have been going well………Don’t be satisfied. Let that taste of success make you even hungrier. Don’t be happy with a piece of the pie. Take the whole thing for yourself. Don’t be happy with that win over aggy. Be mad that you have to play in the first round and take it out on Tech.

Enjoy the moment. Seize the opportunity. No regrets. Texas Fight!

Beat the hell out of Tech!

They need to focus on coming out with energy, and putting the game away early so they can atleast rest chas and yvonne as much as possible for a potential meeting with baylor looming less than 24 hrs following the game.

LAJ story about the Longhorn-Lady Raider matchup tomorrow.

Some good observations about Texas as well as about Tech. It is a Lubbock paper after all,

Daily Texan story on Yvonne being the catalyst for the Horns' recent win streak.

Got to remember when discussing the posts that Anne Marie had a monster game against Tech in the Austin game, grabbing 12 rebounds. including 7 defensive and adding 2 blocks. Horns will have some very good options inside.

nope, can't find any. Looks like we are stuck with the webcast. Makes me glad for my 27 inch HD monitor.

45 minutes to the KVET pregame show and an hour to tipoff!
Go, Horns! Make Tech think they are firing blanks in a fire fight.

Horns colder than ice, down 11-9 with 11:43 to go in the first half. Tech got the lead with a Smalls layup off a steal.

Horns look like they haven't practiced together. Bad shots, poor passing. Down 29-17 with 3:24 to go. I'm surprised they are that close. Still ice cold from the field.

Need to find that fire they had during that three game winning streak cuz they are not yet for sure in the NCAAs. They need this win.

33-19 Tech. Horns can't buy a basket. Tech is hitting around 90% of their FTs and half their pts are probably from there.

35-21 Tech at the half. Looks like the team is shooting blindfolded. It's a big deficit to come back from and near impossible if they continue to shoot this way.

Horns can't convert any putbacks, no one can, not to mention any from outside the paint. Gotta be shooting less than 20% from the field.

What happened? They haven't been able to make a shot. Yeah, Tech is playing good D but Horns have missed open shots. Gotta give credit to Tech for crowding inside on rebs but Texas has missed at least 5 putbacks that were wide open. And missed really bad, not rimming out but just plain missing everything. Add it Tech getting to the FT line early and often and it made for a depressing half for Texas.

Still plenty of time for the Horns to come back and win this game but the shooting and defense has to get better for that to happen.

39% from the field for Tech to 18% for Texas. 11-13 FTs for Tech. I think they said Texas late in the half was 6-7.

Pretty simple: Horns aren't finding the bottom of the basket, even when open.

really bad loss to Tech, 81-58. Horns just never warmed up, ending up with just under 25% from the field.

Nothing to do now but wait and see if that 3-0 run at the end of the season was enough to get the team into the NCAAs.

Horns will need to get their mojo back for the post season. This part is over but the season may not be over yet.
