Texas vs WVU

Vol Horn 4 Life

Good Bye To All The Rest!
Very solid first half on both offense and defense. Second half has started with the normal tentative offense while the D is still playing ok but not quite like the first half.

46-32 Texas with 15:00. to go

Now 22 of 26 with the big men hitting almost all of them. Seens like every time WVU hits a three, Texas answers with two and one.

60-47 Texas and Williams just got a technical for WVU. Texas hits both FT's. 62-47!

That technical by the WVU guy was just like "what the hell is the guy even doing? For real? Just felt like you could use a nice dunk?"

Pretty bad officiating the last few minutes. Missed WVU travel, called ball out of bounds on Texas when we didnt touch it, now shot clock violation when we shot it with a second to go.

Still 62-47 Texas.

This is an amazing display of how to toss from the charity stripe!! Now 28 of 32 from the line.

Texas 66
WVU and Huggie Bear 47

The Ridley we needed all year has finally shown up. If he keeps this up, we could be in for a fun March and April.

Aaaaand WVU air mails a free throw. The Texas offense is definitely not hesitant taking advantage of EVERY opportunity! Two more free throws.

72-47 Texas!

H, Ridley has been a beast, but everyone has done everything right tonight.

This is the most complete game I've seen in years.

Pretty much subs in the last three minutes.

FINAL!

Texas 77
Huggie Bear 50

Awesome performance Horns! Texas ends up 31 of 37 from the line. 43% from the field. Out rebounded WVU 44-25. Total domination!

It's nice when the refs slow the pace down against a press team like WVU. Not sure we'll get the same treatment up there.

Shooting was still fairly poor from the guards. Someone is going to have to step up against more physical teams.

Really nice effort - you had to feel like if Texas handled WVA's press, this could be a REALLY good matchup for us, and it was. They had no answer for our inside big guys - and while Ridley gets a lot of credit for playing hard and finishing (which he hasn't done much this year - that little jump hook he hit out of the gate really seemed to get him off to a good start), I think he benefitted from the matchup.

WVA had absolutely no answer in the halfcourt offense and you could see them getting more and more frustrated. They were absolutely poised for a run midway through the half, and forced some turnovers, got some calls and really seemed to have some momentum, but they never could get any offense going once we settled into the zone. Their post guys had no idea what to do with the ball once they got stopped in the paint by Ibeh or Ridley.

Really big and much-needed win, and you can start to see some pieces coming together.

Excellent game. Nice effort to get the team back on track. Best game plan and execution in weeks!!

"The refs didn't slow it down at all, the defense did. Most of the fouls were called under the basket while Texas was pushing the ball inside."

While I agree that the D was pretty impressive, it was WVU's D that suffered the brunt of the refs' calls, particularly away from the paint. And not during the press either... it was the ticky tack stuff across the lane and away from the ball that got called 5-10 times against WVU and maybe twice against us. Our guards aren't exactly going to beat you, so when you're called for an "aggressive reach" far away from the play, it messes things up.

If you're a Huggins-coached team, you're the one who controls the pace. The moment everything slows down when the other team has the ball, you lose.
