OK, you are Vic Schaefer. How do you prepare for the 0-9 Vaqueros?

Prepare instead for Jackson State or Baylor? Play the starters for just 10 minutes?

Let the team know this is a one-time only exception to the next game is the only game rule?

What?

I've been wondering myself... What in the world does this road game do for us?
Couldn't we have played Rice? SMU? SFA?

Why are we going there vs them coming here? And, I agree: why that team at all? What could we possibly learn?

I fear what happened last year with Alabama State and Amo - that team tried to play to our level and couldn’t. The refs didn’t get the game under control quickly enough and a serious injury occurred. I remember sitting in the stands thinking something bad was going to happen because AS was completely out of control.

I get giving teams the chance to play with the best, but at some point you have to a knowledge the disparity.

I wouldn't play teams that weren't AT LEAST a decent mid major. We'd get more out of playing the bottom team of another big conference then we would playing teams like UTRGV. Recently in a media conference Vic commented that filling up the schedule remains a challenge... not sure what is up with that.

Is this the game played in Edinburgh?

if so, isn’t that a decision (or part of an initiative) to get basketball featured in the valley? So, not a lynchpin to our goals directly but helps to increase our footprint more.

Schaefer has consistently said filling up Horns schedule is difficult. Typically in response to why traditional games wit Tennessee, Stanford and others have dropped off. With UCONN dropping off now, will be interesting to see who he gets next few years. Lots of speculation that coaches don’t want to take on the full court pressure defense that Schaefer uses. Especially early in the year. Could be other factors in play that he doesn’t share.

We'll get plenty of top matchups in the SEC next year and hopefully a good one in the annual ACC/SEC Challenge. I would still like to see us test ourselves a bit more in the non-conference. If we feel like we've got one of the top teams in the nation, then let's find out. Jody always had a challenging schedule and I loved it that way. She wasn't scared to play anybody... not saying that the current staff is, just giving Jody her credit.

I look at these games like scrimmages or practices...and opportunities for knocking off rust and introducing newbies to a fast-paced college environment. Gotta be careful though...they count in the W-L columns.

Good interview. Vic has effusive praise for the VB team and their resiliency, toughness and continuous improvement throughout the season.

Tremendous interview. I really enjoyed a coach’s take on Horns volleyball team. An unfiltered view of what it takes to be a champion. Lots of kids need to listen just to that part of Schaefer.

Schaefer cant get the defensive DNA out of his system. The full court all game pressure has been missing from UCONN and AZ games. It’s good to be able to play both ways…..especially in conference. When get to THE DANCE, the D will need to come from half court cause playoff teams typically have guards that it doesn’t bother. I believe Schaefer wants em to be much better D in half court play. Baylor will be a challenge with Sara Andrews.

I would hope that our non-conference next year could also get enhanced by keeping one or two series going with our former conference mates. Vic seems to have a good relationship with Nicki, so keeping Baylor on the schedule as a premier non conference match would help both schools pack their new arenas. I'd say TCU maybe to get a game in the metroplex every other year. Or you could make nice with the sand witch.

I'm hoping that we are able to do something of this sort... wouldn't mind adding U of H if possible to keep us exposed to the Houston metro area. Let the sand witch be history. LOL

TCU's drawback is that gawdawful floor. The SandWitch is a non-starter for me, as is the so-called "school" she coaches at.
I'd rather play SMU than TCU because of that floor. They are trying to build their program up and doing a decent job. They're also moving to the ACC.

They announced a crowd of 6500. The largest crowd the UTRGV women’s team has ever played in front of!
I take back my earlier negative post about this game. Good for UTRGV. Sometimes it’s about the sport and not the game. I hope that record crowd enjoyed themselves. Hook ‘em

You nailed it WCBB! I was at the game as you could probably tell. The team stayed after the game and a huge crowd, probably 200 to 250 fans gathered around getting selfies and autographs from all the Texas girls! Rori was mobbed but they were all so nice and accommodating. At one point the head of security came over and was making overtures to move on and Vic saw this and immediately came over and told him to let them stay until the fans left. My 2 granddaughters got a selfie with each player! They were over the moon! There were high school teams from the surrounding area that came to the game in school buses. It was great PR for Texas and the UTRGV girls played tough to the end!
Official attendance was 6591!!

This is awesome!

Vic’s comments from the game in the valley! I don’t think anyone can realize how exhilarating this game was as each team got ovations on each basket. UTRGV fans and players we’re great hosts. At the end of the game the UTRGV coach ran to the center of the floor with a Hook’em in one hand and a V for vaqueros in the other. He got a standing ovation!

So nice to see Sarah Graves play so well since recovering from her ankle injury: back-to-back 3's in five minutes of play.
I was very impressed having never seen her play before. I hope she gets more minutes as we can always use that perimeter shooting.
