Texas comes into this game at 4-8 in Big 12 play and seeking to extend their winning streak to two. Tech will be looking to do the same and add another win to their current 5-7 league record. Last time out in Lubbock, Tech took a 75-71 win. Texas had won the five previous games. Texas has not lost to Tech in Austin since February 26, 2006.
Tech is led in scoring by Kierra Mallard (#20, 6-3 Sr. F/C) at 9.2 ppg. The Lady Raiders have three averaging 8 plus points: Chynna Brown (#00, 5-8 Jr. G; 8.8 ppg), Monique Smalls (#23, 5-6 Jr. G; 8.6 ppg) and Christine Hyde (#5, 5-10 Jr. G; 8.6 ppg). Three other starters, Casey Morris (#15, 5-9 Jr. G), Jordan Barncastle (#1, 6-2 Sr. F) and Shauntal Nobles (#33, 6-3 Soph. F/C) average 7.8, 6.4 and 5.1 ppg, respectively. Nobles leads Tech in FG percentage at 50% (22-44). Four others are in 39% range: Barncastle (26-66, 39.4%), Brown (44-112, 39.3%), Smalls (35-88, 39.8%) and Hyde (36-91, 39.6%). Kelsi Baker (#41, 6-0 Soph. F) is at 38.3% on 18-47. Baker, off the bench, is their most accurate 3pt shooter at 42.6% (6-14). Barncastle (12-37, 32.4%), Morris (14-41, 34.1%) and Mary Bokenkamp (#24, 5-9 Jr. G; 6-20, 30%) are other 3pt threats for the Lady Raiders. Two players for Tech are hitting at least 70% of their FTs: Morris (22-26, 84.6%) and Barncastle (13-17, 76.5%). Smalls (2-50, 58.0%) and Hyde (26-40, 65.0%) are the ones that have gotten to the FT line the most.
Smalls has 50 assists. Morris with 24 ranks second in that category. Mallard with 20 blocks ranks first while Nobles is second with 6 and Barncastle third with 5.Tech has four players with double digit steals: Smalls (25), Mallard (18), Morris (15) and Hyde (13). Mallard is their leading rebounder at 6.8 rpg. The rest is a group effort with seven players averaging between 2.9 and 4.3 rpg.
Smalls averages 35.2 mpg. Of the other eight that play in just about every game, the mpg ranges from Morris’ 29.7 to Bokenkamp’s 10.0. Ebony Walker (#42, 6-2 Soph. F) has played in 7 games and averages 6.3 mpg. If Mallard is unable to play due the knee injury she suffered Wednesday, her 27.0 mpg are likely to be absorbed by Barncastle, Nobles, Baker & Walker. Of course, they did fine in Lubbock when Mallard had to sit out that game.
Horns continue to be led in scoring by three players in double figures: Chassidy (16.8 ppg); Yvonne (11.8 ppg) and Ashleigh (10.9 ppg). In addition, Chassidy leads the squad in several other offensive categories: FGs made and attempted (69-173); 3pters made, attempted & % (28-70, 40%); FTs made, attempted & % (35-40, 87.5%). Yvonne (54-128, 42.3%) and Ashleigh (45-143, 31.5%) are the other two Horns with over 100 FGs attempted in league play. Anne Marie’s 46.4% (25-56) tops the team in FG%. Chelsea’s 34.6% (9-26) ranks second on the team among players averaging at least 8 minutes a game. Yvonne (10-41, 24.4%) and Ashleigh (12-41, 29.3%) are second in 3pters attempted. Chelsea is second in FT% at 70.8% (17-24) while Ashleigh (29-44, 65.9%) and Yvonne (24-35, 68.6%) join Chassidy in having attempted at least 30 FTs in Big 12 play.
Nneka leads with 5.8 rpg while Chassidy (5.3 rpg) and Ashley are the other players averaging at least 5 rpg. Ashleigh & Cokie add 4.7 rpg each. Yvonne has 70 assists in league play for an average of 5.8 apg. Ashleigh adds 38 assists. Ashley is far and away the leader in blocks with 27. Nneka (9) and Cokie (8) rank second and third, respectively. Yvonne (27) and Ashleigh (24) are one and two in steals. Chassidy is third with 18 while Ashley leads the posts with 13 steals.
Horns have six players that have played in all 12 league games. Cokie has played in all ten that she has been available for. Chelsea has missed the last four games due to an ankle injury. Tiffany, the other guard besides Chelsea available to come off the bench, is a game to game decision on whether she will be able to play. This has led to Chassidy, Yvonne and Ashleigh averaging over 32 minutes a game. The other five in the rotation average over 16 mpg.Projected starting lineups are based on the last game. Texas has had 8 players start at least one game in conference play. Yvonne and Ashleigh have started all 12 league games. Both teams will have changes in the starting from the last time they met with Texas having the most notable changes.

Texas Tx Tech
Anne Marie (6-3) Barncastle (6-2)
Nneka (6-1) Nobles (6-3)
Yvonne (5-7) Smalls (5-6)
Ashleigh (5-8) Brown (5-8)
Chassidy (5-10) Morris (5-9) [/pre]
Anne Marie and Nneka have moved into the starting lineup, replacing Ashley and Cokie in the post. Anne Marie has been playing well the three games she has started, averaging 10.3 pts on 42.9% and 6.7 rebounds. In the last two, she has hit 75% of her shots. Tech, like the rest of the Big 12, will be looking to slow down or shut down Chassidy. Yvonne and Ashleigh have scored well at home and with scoring from the posts, it will be more difficult to clamp down on Chassidy. Nobles (11 pts & 10 rebs) and Barncastle (19 pts & 10 rebs) each had a double double when these two teams played in Lubbock. That is over twice what they normally average in points and rebounds. They accounted for 30 of Tech’s 75 pts and 20 of the 42 rebounds. Look for Texas to play better D on these two and keep them from being such a big part of Tech’s offense. For Tech, Brown has been hot in the last two games, averaging 17.6 ppg, much like Chassidy does: drive, midrange jumpers and 3s. She will be a tough defensive assignment for Yvonne and Ashleigh who are likely to rotate the primary responsibility for defending her. Should either or both of Chelsea and Tiffany be able to play, that would help the Texas starting guards who have been playing extended minutes since Chelsea suffered an ankle injury before the Kansas State game on Feb. 1.
Stats are for conference games. Both Texas and Tech have played 12 games.

Both teams are still in the running for the sixth spot that will get a bye in the Big 12 tournament. And more, importantly, a win will mean a step closer to a possible NCAA invitation. Texas comes into this game as the better shooting team in league play. In all categories, total FGs, 3pters, shots inside the arc, and FTs, Texas is a few percentage points above Tech. Tech has the advantage in most defensive categories. They take excellent care of the ball. They are tied with Baylor for least TOs per game at 13.3. The Horns will look to force Tech into poor shooting. In the game in Lubbock, Tech was able to run with Texas. Both teams shot the ball fairly well from the field as well as from BTA and the FT line. The difference was Tech getting the FT line 10 more times and converting six of those. Texas will have to defend without fouling while forcing the issue on the other end.
Both teams had four players go between 32 and 40 minutes in their last go round. That should not change, with Texas having 7 players in the primary rotation-nine if Chelsea and Tiff can play while Tech has nine averaging double digit minutes, 8 if Mallard is unable to play.
Game time is Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7 PM CST. The game will be televised on the Longhorn Network. KVET 1300 AM will do the radio broadcast in the Austin area.
